Fitness First was the first gym that I joined, it was the usual gotta get fit and lose weight before the summer holidays thing that motivated me to jion a gym. I was a member for about a year.
Fitness first had a very competitve joining fee and monthly membership fees. I paid £110 as a joining fee which included 6 weeks membership as well. There wasn't a minium period of membership like there are with some gyms.
The gym had the usual assesment and introduction to the equipement, I was not too impressed by this due to the attitude of the fitness instructur and also this introduction was done in a group of 5 others. I felt that really no assessment was made of our fitness ability and the programme issued to me was exactly like the other 4 peoples!
The gym itself consists of a large gym with the usual weights machines and cardio equipement, a smaller gym with a smaller amount of equipement. The space between equipement was inadequate, just packed in. There was also a fitness studio, unfortunately the gym management had not thought about doing a beginners class in the different classes.
The changing rooms, were about the only spacious thing about the this gym, BUT the showers were often not working properly and also leaked into the main changing area.
The gym also had a creche which was reaonable priced but after two visits I didnt book my daughter in again, the staff appeared to be disinterested and really didnt give out positive vibes.
The gym also had a steam room, sauna and a jacuzzi, the jacuzzi was often out of order and the cleanness of it led alot to be desired.
Why did I stop going, mainly due to the fact that the place was packed and I could spend about 20 minutes out of my hour visit queueing for equipement!
I have now joined another gym which is spacious, no queues here even at peak hours! The instructors are excellent and they do beginners classes in the fitness studio!
I personally would not recommend Fitness first if you live in Huddersfield, try Total Fitness
