'99 R1 rocks the road for me!

Advantages: Quick, Fast, exciting to ride and stylish.. as well as Japanese and reliable!
Disadvantages: Twitchy front end on earlier models, needs stearing damper.

be pricey as it is with all bikes that have an 'R' in their name (gsxR, zxR, cbR, R1 etc etc) however my father did find int he past, due to a road conviction that he struggled to insure the R1, some companies won't even touch them due to the fact that when they came out, all the nutter jumped on them and trashed them, plus they are a sought after piece of kit for thieves so keep em locked up boys and girsl! However, I bought mine at 24 after 8/9 years no claims and no convictions and was pleased to pay £350 tpft at such an age (just shop around and you will find a good deal). As for performance well what can I say... It's quick... quick and fast top end! MY YAMMY 2003 R1!!!! MENTAL MIND BLOWER!!!!

Advantages: very very fast!!! awesome wheelies!!! beats any car and most bikes! comfortable, cheap.
Disadvantages: tank slap! no good for long distance (small tank) brakes too sharp in the wet!

two years ago i ummmmmed and rrrrrrrrrrrred at kawasaki zx9r's or the yammaha r1, i decided on the zx9r after reading reviews that the r1 was un stable, and the running costs were high!!!!!! the zx9r was a very quick bike, and id say its as quick, but not faster!!!???? the riding possition is more uncomfortable, and i found the power much more top ended than my r1 on the very few runs on the santa pod, the zx9 scared the pants of me a few times as the front end suddenly launched into the air as the power came in,i found the lift quite violent and at times un predictable!!! the r1 on the other hand is very front up happy, but also very balanced and easy to control. the bottom and mid tourque is quite noticably more than the zx9r but i found at high speeds 150mph+ the zx9 felt much safer and not so 'head down behind the screen ...

2006 Yamaha R1- quickest way from A to B

Advantages: Wonderfully refined sportsbike, Looks ace, great comfort for a sportsbike
Disadvantages: Desirability, likelihood of theft, high insurance group

. What have I got myself in for? Is this bike such a handful? The bike to be mine for the weekend is an immaculate, 06 plate R1 with a few thousand on the clock. As we're going over the controls, alarm etc, the owner fires up the engine, and the bike gurgles into life. I almost can't believe it's in standard trim; the sound from the exhaust is properly loud, even at idle - throaty and raw, an indication of the state of tune of the engine. I climb aboard and get underway becoming familiarised with the controls throttle and brake and mindful of the wise words from the bike shop owner. I take it easy back home. As I ride back to my house to saddle up with weekend kit, I get a taste of city riding. The riding position is sportier than my '02 CBR600F, but not horrendous.
