Formula The One Rear Disc Brake International Standard Features: The one is a completely new brake, based on a patented solid forged caliper which coupled with the new patented master cylinder provides an astonishing braking power and a tremendous modulation. Ride it and you will fastly forget any kind of brake you rode before. Master cylinder: Perimetrix two pieces lever blade increase stiffness. (Fat or thin lever available). Two pieces lever (linkage) provides separate action between reach adjustment and bite. Tool free reach adjustment (through cnc knob). Tool free stroke adjustment (through cnc knob - FCS patented). Patented clamp & reservoir provide better shifter compatibility (placement on the bar). Two pieces master cylinder allows the lever to be removed without take off anything else from the bar. Asymetrix patented master «piston». Glossy finish for high profile look and improved wear resistance. Flip Flop master cylinder allows lever to be mounted on either side of the bar. Patented body, with integrated taper wall reservoir. Nichel plated hardware. High-resistance polyester tube. Data matrix code for a complete traceability Caliper: One piece patented forged caliper. Patented nut reduces offset. Two opposed pistons in composite material (24 mm). Post mount bracket available for each size of disc:160 mm, 180 mm, 200 mm or 220mm. Sintered pad compound. Easy pad removal system without removing the disc or caliper. Open caliper which allows a better dissipation of the temperature. Nichel plated hardware. Data matrix code for a complete traceability
Advantages: Top quality kit Disadvantages: Nothing at all
...and no flex are a great bonus.
The one thing I will talk about is the brakes. One of my reasons for a new bike was to get discbrakes. If your wanting to stop well in the rain and like cycling in the hills and mud then get discs. The bike comes with AVID Juicy hydraulic discbrakes. These are way better than the standard cable pull ones. Whilst they may not be top of the peg ones they offer excellent good all round breaking power for the normal user. It took me a few rides to break in the discs and pads (rather like getting new brakes on a car). But once this was one they stop like nothing on earth. The AVID brakes just look great on the bike, less cumbersome than the Shimano ones you get on other bikes. Anyways, combine the brakes with the specialized tyres and you have some great control.

Advantages: Light, strong, durable, relatively cheap, looks great Disadvantages: None
...Awesome rear hub for the money. Made from 1 piece heat treated, forged 6061 aluminium and it runs on smooth, double lip sealed cartridge bearings. The hub has an international 6 bolt mounting. It is fairly light at 385g due to lots of weight saving holes in the flanges, although these do not affect the strength. The hub is fitted with a 3 pawl ratchet and steel freehub ensuring reliability and durability. The finish is either black or silver and has lazer etched graphics so they wont wear off easily, and they look smart. I have used one of these hubs for nearly two years now for street, downhill and commuting. I have never had a single problem with the hub, it has run smooth as silk from the day it was bought and has been used on an almost daily basis in all conditions with no maintenance whatsoever. If built correctly it will produce...

Advantages: Excellent performance in wet/muddy conditions, rim friendly, good wear rates Disadvantages: Pricier than the competition
...This review is for the dual compound cartridge pads. They are black/salmon in colour.
A bit of History
The real secret of the Kool Stop's superior braking power is the salmon compound. Originally it was developed by Scott-Mathauser, and was recognised as the finest brake pads available, both for it's superior stopping power and durable compound. Kool Stop was under contract to Scott-Mathauser to manufacture their pads.Kool Stop obtained the rights to manufacture the salmon pads when Scott-Mathauser went out of business. The secret of the pads is that they contain iron oxide (i.e. rust), and work on the same principle as sintering does for discbrake pads. They dramatically improve wet weather braking performance as well as wear.
Features of the Kool Stop Pads
Along with the salmon compound, the pads also feature...

Quite often when the end of the Formula One season is upon us, we look back and decide if it was a good season or not. Nine times out of ten this is all because of what has happened in the last 3 or 4 races.
For 2004 the beginning of the season was... more
I've always found Formula One games to be a niche market. I think F1 is a bit like the cricket of the motoring world. To some, it is boring and uneventful. To others, it's all about seeing strategy unfold and patience. Because of this, F1 games will... more
