Advantages: Excellent performance in wet/muddy conditions, rim friendly, good wear rates Disadvantages: Pricier than the competition
...in the wet, and while there is a drop off in performance, it is nowhere near as much as with other brands that I have tried.
In mud these pads really do come into their own. They are the only v-brake pad that I have tried that provide any braking at all when covered in mud. Mud is extremely abrasive, and every time you apply the brakes you are applying a grinding paste to your delicate aluminium rims. Before I changed over to the Kool Stops, my Avid Rim Wranglers lasted as little as 2 months, and also managed to wear my rear rim past the wear markers in under 9 months. With the Kool Stops, not only is the braking vastly improved, but my rims show significantly less wear.
The other small advantage you get is the cartridge pads are a bit easier than the blocks to replace - pull out circlip, press out old pad, push in new pad, replace circlip...

Advantages: Two double width straps Disadvantages: No instep protection
...did not balloon away, which could prove useful if you have close fielder in for the bat/pad catch. The pads are a standard 7 cane arrangement and the hex tech side wing allows you additional protection on the leading side of your leg, although for a club bag the Super Test Range might be a good buy, as it has wings on both sides, making it an ambidextrous pad in theory, although when worn left handed, the straps may rub against each other. The only thing that they lack is extra instep protection, but this is not available on any pads of this pricerange.
Overall this is a good sturdy pad for the average club player, which should get a lot of wear and willsee you good for a few seasons, although I am looking forward to the shipment of my Newbery pads....

I think £19.99 seems to be an average sort of price for a leather headcollar. The clip on mine broke pretty soon, I have seen this before so maybe it is a weakness. I have a piece of yellow tape on mine now. It is still functional but doesn`t look quite so good at shows. Maybe I should have found some black tape.
Do I recommend the Cottage Craft Padded Leather Headcollar?

I think the headcollar is quite good and value for money. It would have been better if the clip hadn`t broken, but I have had it a few years. The padding on it makes it comfortable, I have seen other leather headcollars without padding and they are not as good. I will continue to use this headcollar for travelling. I would not use it everyday. The webbing ones...
