Advantages: Good engine performance Disadvantages: a few rattles on the trim & road noise
I went for the TD4S, it's the lowest specification model, no air con, steel wheels, one driver side air bag, basic radio/casette. The plus side to this is it's less attractive to potential thieves than a TD4 with all the "bells"
The car drives very well as the 1951cc diesel engine is excellent. I have not found any great problems with acceleration it moves off quite well and while not a sports car it copes when there is a need to pull away a bit sharpish in to moving traffic. The gearing is excellent, very positive and quite forgiving if you are over geared for the speed, takes a lot to stall it. It has a hill descent control device on the gear stick, designed for descending steep slippery off road hills. My grand parents got one of these about 3 years ago; they had just gone into retirement and wanted to get a practical but sporty looking 4x4.

**The ride**
The first thing you notice when getting into the car that it's more like getting into a tank. My nana (who has trouble moving) has to use a small stool to get into the car; I didn't think that this was very practical for their needs.
Once in the car you feel like that your sitting on a moving high chair. It gives the feeling of being safe as you are elevated above other cars and you have the dashboard and bonnet that feels extremely long.

everything inside is wipe clean and the face lift interior is smart looking and durable too.the manual sunroof is handy although the clips to close it rattle a little.(a little oil helps tho)the air con is very strong cools the cab a treat.it should be noted that climate control isn't available on the freelander 1,just manual air con which doesn't particularly bother me.
i like the sport spec as the exterior looks very nice with the big 18 wheels and the handling is surprising good.the suspension is lowered by 30 % on the sport so it corners very well with very little body roll. and a good if not an excellent ride...more than acceptable.
