...Being a military man, I have had both a LEATHERMAN© and a GERBER© in the last 10 years, so am in a position to speak with authority on both. The Leatherman is a good tool. However, the Gerber 800 puts it in the shade. Gerber make several models of multitool, but I chose the 800 because it is the most robust and useful in terms of tools provided. It's official colour is 'champagne', I prefer to think of it more as 'light bronze'!!!! The 800 has 18 features, each of which has been thought out to be of ACTUAL use rather than fantasy use. What I mean is, how many of us have found ourselves needing to get a stone out of a horses hoof, whilst needing to get a splinter out of our hand with tiny tweezers whilst trying to measure a 4-inch fish? Advantages: Several tools in a compact package
Disadvantages: Fiddly, poor quality knife and cutter - pliers pinch skin.

...I was given a black Gerber Clutch multi tool for Christmas about a year ago. The tool contains a knife, nail file, bottle opener/flat screwdriver, 'cross-head' screwdriver, tweezers and a pointy type blade. The whole tool folds open to become a pair of pliers/cutters. There is a key-ring on one end. The tool is quite light and compact, although I was always conscious of its presence in my pocket. I carried the tool for most of last year, finding it useful on several occasions. Attaching keys to it hampered its use, so I took them off right at the start. Now to the various tools: Knife - This is a strong blade of about 4 cm useable length. Unfortunately it does not stay sharp very long even with light use such as sharpening pencils and cutting paper. ...INFO I bought my Gerber from Halfords at a reduced price of £35 instead of £70. I know thats not cheap but you get a lot for your money Gerber tools come in a multitude of different varieties. This one is a Gerber Pro Scout Deluxe mp600 multitool complete with a toolkit. DESIGN The tool is made of stainless steel with a titanium coloured finish. You could easily drop this tool on the floor 100 times and it wouldn't get scratched, dented or damaged. They are bomb proof. DETAILS Opening up the tool is easy enough and is done via two push in locking buttons on either side. This stops the tool from opening unexpectedly.
