FULL FAT please
Review of Wilson Graphite Fat Shafts Irons by
kimborob
Advantages: feel, accuracy, distance
Disadvantages: none yet
...several years ago now that Wilson developed the new Fat Shaft technology. I thought at first that it made so much sense that the other manufacturers would follow suit but that was not the case, however, I still like the idea and it has helped my game (I keep thinking about that old saying - a bad workman always blames his tools?!)
I have been playing golf for 6 years and recently swapped my first set, bought for my by my hubby for a new set of Wilson ... ...I believe that the Wilson Fat Shaft technology has the right idea for these clubs. With club head sizes increasing over the years, it makes sense to increase the shaft diameter producing less torque which means less twisting which means greater accuracy.
A fatter shaft results in significanlty larger tip diameter, depending on the type of clubs.
Wilson Fat Shaft iron's tip diameter is, .500", Hyper Carbon Graphites .535" (compared to the standard ...

The First Golf Shot On The Moon
Review of Wilson Staff Progressive Irons by
the_mad_cabbie
Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: See opinion
...~ ~ The Wilson Sporting Goods Company began back in 1913, as the result of a slaughterhouse in Chicago looking for new and innovative ways to use the by-products of their gruesome trade. They hit on the clever idea of using pig’s bladders in the manufacture of American footballs, and thus the Wilson company was born. Their first venture into the golf market was the manufacture of golf bags, using the hide of the animals they had slaughtered, ... ...Fame”, and he really put Wilson on the map in the golfing world. ~ ~ Wilson have always been a forward thinking company, and in 1933 one of their golf advisors, Willie Ogg, came up with a revolutionary new design of club called the “Ogg-mented Irons”, that are now considered to be the forerunner of today’s perimeter weighted irons. ~ ~ In the late 1930’s yet another famous name joined the Wilson stable, Sam Snead, and ...

The Best of Performance Irons
Review of Wilson Pi5 Performance Irons by
roberto900
Advantages: Fantastic looks, great forgiveness, good distance
Disadvantages: Not suitable for beginners or the very low handicaps?
...I was taken by some Wilson clubs and I must admit I find many of their clubs fantastic to look at and the Pi5 are no exception! In the Wilson Staff series there are various degrees of golf club in terms of the standard of player the clubs are aimed at. This begins with the new Di7 model (Distance irons with a larger sole to reduce the effects of off-centre hits) which is the most forgiving. Next is another new model, the Ci6 which is aimed at mid-handicappers; ... ...Personally I believe the entire Wilson Staff range to be beautiful golf clubs.
I believe that a statement of just how good these irons are is the fact that tour players Padraig Harrington and Jesper Parnevik choose to play them over the more advanced clubs in the range!
In terms of technical detail the Pi5 is very strong too. As previously mentioned the sole width alters the harder the club is to hit. Also the heads feature thinner top lines than ...

Wilson Fatshaft Irons- Are they the club for you??
Review of Wilson Fat Shaft Mk II Iron by
youngmj
Advantages: Reliable and easy to use for a beginner
Disadvantages: Not terribly long-hitters
My Wilson Fatshaft Irons were the first set of clubs I ever bought just over 2 years ago. So obviously I haven't been playing golf for long and comparatively could probably still be referred to as a beginner. I was recommended this set of irons by my club pro as they were in my price range and good for beginners. The set I bought also incorprated "hybrid" clubs for extra distance in the 3 and 4 irons.
------The Head----------
The club-heads are ... ...still the same size until Wilson did. Surely this would compromise stability, for a larger head. For this reason Wilson developed the Fatshaft which has supposed to stabilise the head which in turn will make the ball fly straighter and more consistently. I felt this was the best option for me and in time found these claims to be well founded to the point where using my friends non-Fatshaft clubs can turn into quite an embarrassing experience as I ...

A great series of clubs - Hybrid future anyone?!
Review of Wilson Dh6 Distance Hybrid 2006 by
roberto900
Advantages: Fantastic looks, great forgiveness, good distance
Disadvantages: Not exactly traditional!
...iron replacement clubs in the Wilson Staff Dh6 Distance Hybrid series. Having struggled with long irons for a long time I finally came around to giving the less conventional hybrid clubs ago after constantly hearing about how much easier to hit they are. Having had the club for a long enough time I can honestly say that all of the good things you hear about hybrid clubs are certainly true of this one! At first I wasn't sure whether or not I would ... ...face. As you can see Wilson Staff have created a series of hybrid clubs that on release in 2006 were bang up to date with all of the latest "tour" technology which has got to be easier to use than that straight-faced old 3-iron!!
The standard grip and particularly shaft options are absolutely fantastic on this club. The grip is Wilson Staff's own and is comfortable and durable but the shaft is where the club comes into its own! There are a few options ...
