I've owned my Golf TDI S for almost 5 years now, and I've been really pleased with it. Unfortunately my insurance company have purchased the car back from me following a 7 vehicle pile up (not my fault!). However, I thought I'd put the experience to good use and tell you not only about how great the car is as a drive, but also show how well it can stand up to a battering. The car looks good. There's no getting away from it: when VW bring out a new shape of the Golf I invariably don't like it, but given a few weeks to get used to it, and it really grows on you. On the outside the car comes in a range of colours (I'd opted for a nice metallic blue on mine), with the mirrors and part of the bumper finished in the same colour. Wonderfuel Golf

Advantages: Economy with performance
Disadvantages: Limited rear legroom

disappointed. The really nice thing is that you can load it up and it seems to perform just the same. Fuel consumption is good with the manufacturer’s figures of 57.5 mpg for the combined cycle readily achievable. 600 miles between refills is within reach and the low fuel warning light and buzzer are spot on, allowing you about a further 80 miles to find a pump. Handling and ride is really not too bad, but perhaps a little soft if you push it hard – grip and steering are all good. It is quite hard to find things wrong with the Golf, its does everything with such typical German efficiency it’s almost boring. If you are after a dependable hardworking car, you really cannot go wrong with this Golf. ...

VW Golf SE TDI 90bhp

Advantages: Quality and a refined driving experience.
Disadvantages: Not the fastest car on the road by any means.

previous car. However, the garage warned me against this, even though the old unit had the VW blue display so presumably was intended for VW cars? Anyhow, I didn't want to risk invalidating the warranty! so I took their advise on this The black cloth interior looks very smart, but needs hoovering out almost every day to keep it looking good. Road-holding is reasonable, but acceleration is not very good. I live near a busy dual-carriageway and need to gain speed quickly to join the traffic, and I now have to be extra careful and 'pick my moment' before joining the moving traffic. My previous Golf (a Mk 3 version from 1998, but also a 90bhp TDI) was much better on acceleration. I also notice the lack of power on joining roundabouts. I guess the Golf is just a heavy car and I will need to adapt my driving technique. Once I get to 70 mph ...
