Advantages: Cheap Thermarest Mat, Very Comfortable Disadvantages: Size
...Thermarest mats have been at the top of any kit list for keen campers such as myself. I spent about 5 years sleeping on those terrible closed cell foam mats. It was during a 5 day long expedition that i woke up with a bad neck and said "Im getting a thermarest."
I searched the market for a thermarest pad that suited my needs. The first mat i purchased was my Luxury Edition Camprest mat which was about £100. This is a great mat, and when ever there is a car available to be my porter i will pack this. I then purchased a Perforance Series Ultralight mat. This is used when im climbing high in the mountains where a massive mat lashed to the side of your bag just doesent help your performance. Finally i decided to try one of the discovery series mats, mats that i had outcast earlier.
To my amazement i was introduced to a mat that could...

Advantages: Ultra light, roomy , quick to erect Disadvantages: expensive
...“This ultralight, freestanding tent is for gram-counting geeks who like to swill their adventure in big gulps and have a little room to read at night!” Big Agnes
We treated ourselves to this Seedhouse SL3 last year (SL3=super light 3 person). This is the tent we take with us our forays deep into the undergrowth and it was an extravagance as it cost us around £200. That probably sounds a bit steep but it was worth the money because its one of the lightest 3 man tents out there. It weighs in at a svelte 3 lb 15 oz and you can whittle that down to an anorexic 3 lb 2 oz if you are sure the weather will be decent and there is no nasty insect life by using the fast fly assembly
When you are carrying everything you need every ounce makes a difference and the tent is big component of the overall weight. Cutting that weight down means you have...

Advantages: Will burn well just about any fuel you can find to use, good at altitude. Disadvantages: Not as good looking a stove as others in the series! Keep a spares kit.
...If you really do want the latest, most fancy, up to the minute backpacking stove then look at the rest of this great manufacturers range!!! There will most certainly be an MSR stove there just for someone just like you! If however, just like little old me, you really want a go anywhere and do just about anything stove, to backpack all around this world with, then PLEASE do look no further. Your journey for finding a perfect backpackers stove is over, and you have arrived at your requested detination, right on time!!! I own two of these excellent stoves, both bought from Field and Trek, if I recall correctly. I got my first of these when Chris Townsend reccomended them in Trail magazine, or was it TGO??? Being a bit of a CT fan I wanted the same stove that the old master backpacker had!! I was later often glad that I did have...
