Advantages: Cheap, relativly light Disadvantages: Leash comes off
...Hi,
Having doing hillwalking and low grade rock climbing for a number of years i though i would take the plunge into winter walking. Last year i bought myself a pair of Grivel G10 crampons and the above axe.
The axe is 60cm in length with a wrist lensh on the shaft. The axe head is study and joined to shaft with an eyelet rivet, the same as most axes of this type. The shaft of the axe sounds hollow giving it it's light weight. This does not mean that it is weak, as I used it once as as a hanhold, jaming the axe horizontal across the top of two boulders and hauling myself up on it, the shaft did not bend and their is no sign of cracking.
The shaft appears to have a protective coating on it that also allows for extera grip by having loads of small raised bubbles on it.
The head of the axe, is quit tough, and has not been...

Advantages: Can make bridle cleaning easier. Disadvantages: Too much hassle to hang up.
...How much can I write about a four pronged hook? I will have to wait and see. I spotted a new one of these on ebay for 1p. I bid and won it for 1p. The postage was £1.50 though but it was still a bargain because I got it for 1p. How we kid ourselves. The Cottage Craft 4 Prong Tack Hooks are actually £3.50 plus postage on equestrianclearance, so maybe it was a bargain after all.

It hangs from the ceiling and you hang the bridle from it and clean it. if you imagine, it is easier wiping a bridle with a sponge when it is hanging from something. It allows you to apply more pressure and really clean the bridle properly. You can use both hands to wipe...

How to Hook
If you look at a piece of corn you will notice two very different ends, one that is open and the other that is both domed and covered. You should now hold a grain between your index finger and your thumb with the covered end exposed. Now the hookpoint should be inicked through the corn at its thinest point. If several pieces are being used on your hook, the first hooked piece should be pushed around the bend and onto the shank to make space for the next piece of corn which should then be threaded on and placed next to the first.....and so on until the hook is full, but don't cover the hookpoint.
