Although there are plenty of good ready made groundbaits available, I personally like to make my own.
I would like to share some of my own, home made groundbait recipes which I have found to be very effective.
My favourite winter groundbait mix, for fishing using the pole for small silver fish.
Take.. 1Kilo of Mole Hill Soil, which has been dried to a powder and sieved. 4 Table spoons of turmeric. 1 Table spoon of caster sugar. 1 Tea spoon of table salt. 100g of corn flour. 1/2 a bag of sieved punch crumb. 200g of ground trout pellets. 1 Tea spoon of ground ginger. 3 Table spoons of chocolate powder or coco powder.
Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl, buy adding the water to the mixture not mixture to the water. This will give you a less lumpy mix.
I find using a water spray bottle, rather than just pouring the water in, is a much better way of doing it.
You could also add some Joker and Blood worm to the mix, if so leave out the salt. After mixing your groundbait I suggest that you sieve the mix to get rid of any lumps.

Now For My Winter Swim feeder Mix.
This is a great all round groundbait and superb for all fish.
1/2 Kilo of Mole Hill Soil, Which has been dried to a powder and sieved. 1/2 Kilo of sieved brown crumb 300g of ground Trout pellets. 1/4 Kilo of sieved white crumb. 2 table spoons of chocolate powder. 100g of sifted sawdust or cork dust if possible. 1/2 a table spoon of salt. 2 table spoons of caster sugar. 1 table spoon of bicarbonate of soda.
Mix as for the above mixture, but leave this Mix very dry, so it will explode out of the feeder.

Last But Not Least Is My Summer Mix.
This is the only mix that I use, in our so called summer months. It is again a superb mix for all fish.
1 Kilo of brown sugar. 1/4 Kilo of corn flour. 6 table spoons of chocolate powder. 1/4 Kilo of ground Trout pellets or Carp pellets. % table spoons of caster sugar. 1/4 bottle of Pistachio nut oil, which is about 25ml. 1 table spoon of custard powder.
Mix this mixture for how you want it to act in the water. eg. very dry for the swim feeder, damp if using with the pole or wet for using as slop. I suggest that if you are fishing mainly for Roach, add crushed hemp seed to the mix.

Advantages: attrractive to fish, sometimes smells yummy to me too, texture can be altered easily with the addition of different amounts of water. Disadvantages: sometimes the 1kg bag doesn't last too long.

Review of Groundbaits
Advantages: Cheap to do when done correctly, good results. Disadvantages: FEAR FACTOR - You will look silly if you do it without results. Difficult to carry a large amount.

Review of Groundbaits
Advantages: The plain stuff is very cheap. As a whole, this is a brilliant bait!!!!! Disadvantages: Fattens fish so they look funny sometimes, can get overfed which fishery owners don't like. In fact they are banned on a fair few venues these days.
