...say I've seen a few. Fitness First Bournemouth (and this seems to be consistent with other FF facilities I've now read disgruntled reviews on) is sadly one of the worst. The weights area (downstairs) is small and therefore after no more than 10 people are in there you can't actually get to the weights to train. Upstairs they have some resistance machines, but these are worked on a "rubber band" system. Expect your 5 year old to be able to handle ...
...Then we come to the Fitness First philosophy of membership cancellation! Pure extortionism at its worst. They require just over one calendar months written notice - ie, that needs to be handed to the club manager PRIOR to your 2nd to last (penultimate) monthly payment! I missed out by 2 days!!! I gave written notice on the 3rd December but still have to pay for all of December and January as 3rd December - 1st January is not a calendar month. Why? ...

LA Fitness, Aldwych. Horror story, don't trust with your stuff.

Disadvantages: Staff, size, safety

The equipment is average and the size small but not too crammed. My horror story relates to stolen stuff. I rented a locker there, and two months after had it broken into when the staff "accidentally" clipped the lock. Three months after they did a refurb, and all my exercise gear went missing. Their lost property list was five pages and this had apparently happened to everyone. The only excuses they had is "A lot of things happened during the refurb" ...
...dozens of people having their gym equipment STOLEN from your gym "out of your control"? This was in March 10. Staff offered more months of locker hire in compensation, which I would obviously have to continue my membership to take advantage of. I declined. They said they would be in contact but havent. Also, when I joined they offered a "student membership, 50% off standard rate", but this was a lie, as the standard membership prices are nowhere ...

Virgin Active, Stockley Park, Hillingdon

Advantages: Accessible by walking over Stockley Park or along the bypass. Also served by buses A10 and U5
Disadvantages: sometimes machines are out of order. Very busy during from about 5pm week days

This is one of the big Gyms with a 25 metre pool and Spa with whirlpool, sauna, steam room and sanarium. It also boasts a Sports Hall and two studios as well as two floors with weight area and excersize machines. It also has a creche and a cafe, with Internet facilities and a lounge area I have been a member for a number of years now and get good benefit from my membership by going at least three times a week. ...suits in respect of how much you want to use it. There are so many classes to choose from as well, all included in your package. The only extra's are Personal Training Sessions and Swimming Lessons. The staff are friendly and helpful with their services and the place is well maintained by member care staff who are always around to clean. ...

Advantages: Loads: Much better than Fitness First!

Gym and changing rooms are very clean; in fact whilst I was there a cleaner was giving the showers a good scrub. GHDs to use at no price. Molton Brown toileties as well as lovely bath robes & towels that changing provide you with a bit of modesty unlike some other gyms whereby you get one tiny towell, not washed properly etc etc. Uptodate gym equipment to use although I'm sure they could put more weight machines in.
