Good on paper, not so good in reality
Advantages: big club, good range of facilities Disadvantages: unfriendly atmosphere
...have been a member of Esporta Coventry for just coming up to 1 year with my husband. We have just given our notice on membership, partly as we are moving to a different part of the town and partly due to the fact that we are so disallusioned with the club. Esporta Coventry started off as a raquets club and quite an exclusive one at that. Esporta took over the running of the club, I believe 5 years ago (approx.)
Facilities include: 4 outdoor, 6 indoor ... ...Full Gym (lots of equipment, you never have to wait for a machine, even a peak times) and toning suite (with staff on and to help you at peak times), indoor pool, kids activites, bar, restaurant and plenty of fitness classes. Sounds great, doesn't it. Well it is! The only thing that lets it down is the terribly unfriendly attitude, which I'm afraid starts with the staff! It has been known on occaision to improve, but always gets worse again. Recently ...

A movie star body in 6 months well almost
Advantages: Complimentary drinks, excellent facilities, friendly well trained staff Disadvantages: Could be a little expensive for some
...great difference in my overall fitness and the way I look. I mainly use the weight machines followed by about 20mins aerobic exercise (running/cross trainer) I don’t use the classes but there are a lot of different options such as kick boxing, aerobics, steppers, cycling etc. I know quite a lot of people in there and every one is very friendly. When my shower at home broke it was lucky I was a member since I could just use their very luxurious ... ...One thing that fitness first do not have is a swimming pool, their reason for this is because it is expensive to run and most members do not want one anyway. I have no problem with this as I prefer just getting on with running and weight training. Membership prices are quite reasonable with the off peak £24 (8am-4pm weekdays, after 2pm weekends) and the Gold £34 (you can use the gym anytime.) As I'm a student, I'm on the off peak membership since ...

Advantages: its cheep Disadvantages: staff are unhelpful, violent and abusive. the management don't care
in my opinion you should never go anyware near this gym. the facilities suck and the staff are very abusive and unhelpful. i seen a disabled person being attacked and no one helped him. member of staff who hit the disabled man still works there. in my opinion, the staff are violent and the managemet just turn a blind eye to this.
i found the gym very dirty and unhygenic, there was mould growng on the tiles in the shower area and outside the sauna.

OUGHT TO HAVE A WEALTH WARNING
Advantages: Good tennis Disadvantages: Personally witnessing a long-standing member being refused entry.
OUGHT TO HAVE A WEALTH WARNING: The club appears to tie the members into very long contracts (currently, I believe 12 months notice) and this year when my membership was due for renewal the club did not adhere to their own contract with regards to price increases, 14a & 14b of the contract in particular. The office staff, in charge of Membership Relations, I found to be rather dishonest! I personally experienced some very unethical tricks when negotiating ... ...who she is, will even insist that she does not receive emails as official notice of resignation or retraction, depending on what benefits her, of course. I have also personally witnessed a long-standing member being refused entry to the club only 2 days after his payment ran out. How ruthless!
Be careful! ...

Don't join
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Facilities
...has meant that companies like LA Fitness continue to operate when they ought to shrivel up and dissappear. This club is awful! Showers are closed, though if you were to go inside them you would find broken floor tiles and a leaking roof. The exercise studio features a leaking roof and lots of 'feature' puddles that gym instrutors need to warn of, just in case a member falls. The club is like an unwanted puppy - neglected, tired and in need of some ... ...complete the much promised £1m refurbishment as its unusable at present. It's a shame as I have been a member for many years and used to love it - a really friendly and and intimate club, which under the 'new' ownership of LA Fitness has been run into the ground. ...
