...January 2001, my friend joined David Lloyd which had recently been built and opened in Gyle Park on the West of Edinburgh situated between Corstorphine and the Gyle! ...back there. David Lloyd also have a function suite which is just off reception. They have a extremely large hall which can be shuttered off into 2 smaller rooms. We recently held a naming ceremony here and it was well worth the £500 we paid for it. The staff were great about keeping us informed about everything and the buffet was great too. ...business hots up. Holmes Place is an established chain, and their brand spanking new Edinburgh club is the biggest gym in all Scotland!! I was lucky/ gullible enough (delete as per your opinion!) to sign up for this place before it opened, at the bargain joining fee of £20. Bear in mind it’s £59 a month membership after that though! ...UPDATE *** UPDATE *** Holmes Place continue to impress me with their commitment to customer service. They send out a monthly newsletter, updating members on changes and improvements, and seem keen to listen and respond to our concerns. The timetable has been dramatically expanded with an average of 15 classes per day! Add to this the fact that they are doing a whopping big weeks worth of fundraising for Comic Relief - and you see why I'm impressed. ... Read review

What it offers over my existing gym, is cleaner, flasher surroundings, with sauna, steam room and spa, however the free weights facilities are not as good, and since it is about 3x more expensive, I don't think I'll be joining. ... I found out about fitness first when I was searching the Internet for fitness clubs in my area. The club sounded really good, as well as the gym they ran fitness classes including Pilates and Yoga, had a Spa area and a members only video club.
