Virgin Gym Omni Centre Edinburgh
Advantages: size and in town centre Disadvantages: expensive, some incompetent staff
Large gym with up to date machines. Have enjoyed going although there is alot of waiting around at peak times. Also, I have never ever been able to book a place on a class at peak times which is very very frustrating. Only really good thing is the 25m pool that is UV filtered. There are nicer gyms in Edinburgh for the same money. My main complaint is with the incompetency of the admin staff. I cancelled my membership by filling in the required form ...

Get the best deal and support from your gym
Advantages: save money, better support Disadvantages: none
...work in the health and Fitness industry for 9 years and in that time I joined a lot of people up to various gyms. However there were times when as a sales person, I hated my job because I felt like people were often getting ripped off and not getting the best deals available. In light of that (and the fact I know it still happens today) I have put together a comprehensive guide to getting the most out of your gym membership, how to get the best deals ... ...clever fee designed by the fitness industry as a whole to get more money out of you. Sorry! 3) Join the gym 3 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE MONTH. The sales staff are desperate to hit their targets and will give you all sorts of reductions (many will put you onto a reduced corporate rate to get the sale even if you don't work for a large corporate company! I've even known some to put people onto an Off-peak membership but give them full use of the gym ...

A family friendy Health club
Advantages: Family friendly, plenty to do Disadvantages: Can be busy at certain times
...January 2001, my friend joined David Lloyd which had recently been built and opened in Gyle Park on the West of Edinburgh situated between Corstorphine and the Gyle! In July 2001 we noticed and offer in teh paper for a Ģ50 joining fee so we phoned and arranged a look round!
We were impressed! A large car park with plenty of spaces and also from the outside the building looked clean and welcoming! The staff were very helpful on the front desk and ... ...back there. David Lloyd also have a function suite which is just off reception. They have a extremely large hall which can be shuttered off into 2 smaller rooms. We recently held a naming ceremony here and it was well worth the Ģ500 we paid for it. The staff were great about keeping us informed about everything and the buffet was great too.
If you are in Edinburgh and live nearby you should check this club out. I can assure you that you will not ...

best gym I have ever been to
Advantages: excellent equipment Disadvantages: price
...centres in the area and Fitness First seems to be the best one so far.
I suppose it helps that I havenīt had to pay yet, as I have always gone with free vouchers I have won on an Internet lotto, or on their free trial weekends.
I think there are different levels of membership according to peak and off-peak usage, and the top membership fee was more than 30 pounds per month last time I checked, so if there is two of you it can become quite expensive, ... ...a couple of hours there everyday. And we canīt forget there is a joining fee, which covers for administration costs and you usually get a sports bag, a towel, headphones for the machines, so you can listen to the radio/tv while you are working and something else.
Itīs not in the town centre so you cannot go during your lunch hour if you want to spend your break from work in the gym.
It seems to be quite small, but I have never had problems with ...

Keeping Fit at a Not So Leisurely Pace
Advantages: Facilities all over the city, no contract to tie you in, excellent service overall Disadvantages: Occasional staff shortages, unruly kids
...time I have lived in Edinburgh I have tried my level best to ensure I get a decent amount of exercise to try to counter the calorific content of the sweet treats I enjoy. There are, of course, a large number of private health clubs in the city, offering fantastic facilities. However they are not cheap and many tie you into a contract that can be difficult to extricate oneself from if, for various reasons, you can no longer make use of your membership. ... ...owned by the City of Edinburgh Council and offers fitness facilities for all the family at various locations dotted around the city ensuring you are never too far from somewhere to go to keep fit. I use Edinburgh Leisure predominantly for swimming and the gym but it's worth noting that they also have a marina, two golf courses (the Silverknowes course is particularly attractive and offers lovely views over the River Forth), tennis club and climbing ...
