Halfords Cable and Key Bike Lock

I have a Claude Butler bicycle that I like to make sure is safe from theives when I leave it anywhere. I needed a new bicycle cable and lock so went to shop at Halfords. I choose a 180cm long cable with lock attached.

This bike lock and cable has a security rating of 4 which classes of high in the range 1-3 basic then 4=7 high and 8-10 maximum. I decided that it should give me sufficient protection for my bicycle.
The cable is a good length sufficient for me to wrap it around a fixed post and both wheels. I have quick release nuts on my wheels and it’s so easy for someone to nick just a wheel so I like to clamp my wheels securely.

The cable is 8mm in diameter and has been coiled this makes storage easy. The cable is a vinyl coated metal.
The lock is in a black barrel which is attached /moulded firmly to the cable.
There are 2 keys supplied with this lock it’s always good to have 2 keys.
Attached to the lock is a bracket that can be fitted to the bicycle this is fixed by 2 screws which you will need a screwdriver for to undo wrap around the frame tubes. I think this is a good idea as then I am sure I will not forget my lock.

I find this cable and lock is good. It’s fairly easy to attach when the bracket is fitted the cable coils tightly and does not get in the way. When uncurling the cable to fit my bike to the posts then sometimes it is a nuisance because it coils round where I do not want it too , however that’s minor I would rather it was a tight coil only takes a moment to uncoil it. Locking is easy just push the locking pin into the hole until it clips in securely. To unlock I need to insert my key at the end of the lock barrel turn and hey presto its released and I unfurl the cable from the frame of my bicycle. I either have the cable bracket fitted to my bicycle so I coil the cable up tight or if the bracket not attached put the cable into my rucksack and off I pedal.

I feel happy about the security this lock and cable gives my bicycle it would be difficult to cut through the cable and would take a long time.
Halfords suggest that to ensure a long life ( for the lock) to oil it keep it lubricated.

This bike lock and cable was in the medium price range on sale today it costs £14.99 full price £16.99. This cable and lock is also available with a shorter 90cm cable

If I needed to secure other items such as a lawn mower or a gate then this would do the trick.
