Advantages: Frame, upgrade potential Disadvantages: pedals, and other components
...The first thing before you go anywhere with this bike is to get rid of the pedals! Weak pedals really destroy a good solid Aluminium (and I don't always love aluminium) frame.
Pedals are what drive the bike and I strongly believe that these after a good frame are the most important component. Plastic pedals? for off road. I just read the previous comments on this bike and found out its good for on road commuting having never done any commuting ever I wouldn’t know, it would make sense though.
Before I go on I better just say a few words about me, so you get where I’m coming from. I am one very aggressive mountain biker and road racer. I put my bikes through everything my body can go through; this is probably why I’ve just come out of hospital and why I’ve destroyed one of my previous bikes.

...it was misaligned. I realigned it and continued.....
Few weeks later i was riding along and nearly crashed because everything just popped off, my pedals, my breaks, my reflectors!, my chain. Most of the removable parts in fact.
Once again took back and got a replacement.
Then just 2weeks ago i tried to adjust the back breaks because the pads were rubbing along the wheel and to my surprise the adjustment screws weren't working, I went to undo the whole back break and the bolt just twisted right out of its screw hole, and then i found it was made of the same soft metal as the pedal bars were.
I took this back and got it repaired.
This bike as you can see is a disaster, i cant get a different bike because the cover doesn't cover that and im actually astonished by Raleigh for making such a cheap, fairly expensive bike.

I think £19.99 seems to be an average sort of price for a leather headcollar. The clip on mine broke pretty soon, I have seen this before so maybe it is a weakness. I have a piece of yellow tape on mine now. It is still functional but doesn`t look quite so good at shows. Maybe I should have found some black tape.
Do I recommend the Cottage Craft Padded Leather Headcollar?

I think the headcollar is quite good and value for money. It would have been better if the clip hadn`t broken, but I have had it a few years. The padding on it makes it comfortable, I have seen other leather headcollars without padding and they are not as good. I will continue to use this headcollar for travelling. I would not use it everyday. The webbing ones...
