Here we are again with another memorable sci-fi series from Gerry and Sylvia Anderson whose other 'Hits' included Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds and UFO.
Space 1999 was set on the Moon where a Moon base has been built and nuclear waste from the Earth was stored, but things are not well and soon the nuclear waste explodes blowing the moon out of earths orbit and sets it on a course out of the solar system.
The series then follows the crew left alive the Alpha moon base as the travel around the universe and as they meet many strange aliens and come across other civilizations and weird planets.
The program aired from 1975 - 1977 and actually only lasted for 2 series but with 24 episodes in each series it seemed to go on for a lot longer.

Those who can will remember when The Matrix first came out, when it was fresh, new and exciting. A new experience for all but with a plot so complicated it made algebra seem like a primary school task. Who got The Matrix from just one watch? I know i had to watch it at least three times before my brain could really escape into the complexity of the plot and break it down into easy-to-swallow chunks.
The wachowski brothers best film to date,even after the release of the 2nd and 3rd installments, because nothing is ever as good as the original with these kinds of movies. Yes, the sequels develop characters and explain more of the story but you just can't beat an original idea, and when there are sequels originality doesn't come into play ...

Fans of the series will definitely want to purchase this newly remastered DVD set of season one. The amazing picture quality, clarity of sound and atmospheric musical effects alone are a must have for any true Space 1999 fan.
The actual video extras are a little light but given that the series is almost thirty years old, this can be forgiven as finding source material is often difficult. However the booklets that come with the set are a wonderful addition to any collection and give away many behind the scenes secrets as well as the history of how the series came to be commissioned. Text information on two episodes plus PDFs of a select number of scripts give yet more insight into the making of this ground-breaking programme. ...
