.... It is fastened with two clips at the front and cross surcingles underneath. There are no leg straps, just a fillet string at the back. I prefer this, I always feel that leg-straps are difficult to adjust accurately – too long and there’s a danger of legs getting caught and too tight they would easily rub. At the time I bought this it came in one colour – navy blue with a green binding. It has, as I said, been in daily use through out the last 3 winters; it has never leaked or slipped in that time, and I have to confess that I’ve never washed it or had it cleaned either. It’s a perfect fit on my pony, and doesn’t rub on his shoulders at all. He’s kept in a field with lots of trees and the outer is tough enough not to snag or tear. He seems to have plenty freedom of movement, although as he’s now 38 years old he doesn’t gallop about much... Read review

Advantages: Light weight, easy care, durable, waterproof

...in three weights - heavy, medium and lite (their spelling). The heavyweight has a 370g thermobonded fibrefill, the medium has 200g and the lite has no filling (making it ideal for the milder autumn /spring weather). All weights have a 1000 denier ripstop polypropylene outer in a navy/green/purple check pattern, and they are made using ‘barrier technology’, meaning the waterproof ‘Aquatrans’ (trademark) coating is applied to a carrier fabric layered underneath the outer fabric. This helps the rug to keep its waterproof properties even if it gets a hole in it. It also has a nylon lining which helps polish the coat. Other features include twin breast straps (not adjustable, but this shouldn‘t matter if you buy the right size), cross surcingles, a tail flap and a fillet strap, all in a self-righting breathable design. Advantages: Keeps my old pony warm, dry and cosy

...! The Rambo comes in slightly different designs and styles and there is also rhino turnouts as well now. Products Rambo original: This is the green rug with red cross surcingles, fillet string and front straps. The outer of this rug is ballistic nylon, with a nylon line. It is marketed as waterproof and breathable. It is the product I owned initally for my 14.2hh event pony. He is half thoroughbred but hates being stabled, and despite being 2 day event fit, he used to live out in all weathers. This rug used to keep him warm and dry. When he was clipped we used to put other rugs underneath it as required. As the rambo is quite deep and cut high on the neck, these were kept fairly dry. There, unfortunately was some leakage around the neck, but short of gluing a rug to the horses neck I cannot see how this could ever be avoided. Although... Read review
