Cottage Craft Standard Headcollar.
Review of Cottage Craft Standard headcollar by
spottydog2
Advantages: Cheap.
Disadvantages: No nose or throat adjustment.
...A headcollar is an essential requirement for a horse. In fact I have come to the conclusion that a lot of my horsey reviews state that the item is essential, they are animals that require a lot of money spent on them. One thing I can say though is, the headcollar is probably one of the cheapest things.
Headcollar.

A headcollar is used to lead the horse. The headcollar actually goes on the head and you then need to attach a leadrope to the headcollar before you can lead the horse (available seperately). It is a bit like a dog collar and lead. You need the collar to lead the dog but you also need a lead. The only difference is, the horse does not wear the headcollar all the time. The headcollar goes around the nose of the horse and over the head where it does up with a buckle (see picture). The leadrope...

Speedibeet, Low sugar alternative
Review of Speedi-Beet Quick Soaking Beet Flakes by
Scarlet337
Advantages: rapid soaking-ready in 10 mins! low sugar, high fibre!
Disadvantages: none that i have found so far
...Since one of my horses cam down with laminitis this summer i have had to re-think there feeding.
Before i had always used the traditional beet pulps that were molassed and required soaking for 24 hours before it can be fed to horses, but since this is a molassed feed it isnt suitable for my laminatic horse.
Speedibeet is an unmolassed beet pulp which is 95% sugar free and is ready in 10 minutes if soaked with cold water or 5 minutes if soaked in hot water and is recomended by the laminitis trust as suitable for horses or ponies prone to laminitis.
The product is presented as flakes of beet pulp unlike the pellets that are the traditional beet pulp, you soak them in a ration of 1:5 ie if you use 250 grams of speedibeet flakes you need to add 1.25 litres of water, which means they need more water added than pellets which require soak...

Rubber Matting
Review of Dry Bed by
honeybeee
Advantages: Reduces pain in arthritic horses, helps horses with COPD, reduces mucking out time significantly, reduces muck heap dramatically, cheaper in long run, warmer than concrete floor. Less bedding needed so less to store.
Disadvantages: Expensive initial outlay, hard to clean under mats, difficult to move.
...I have three horses and have kept horses for over 18 years. Two years ago I moved to ahouse with land and built my own stables. I worked full time, and had just one horse at that time. Moving to a new house meant that I needed to buy a companion horse for my original one, and later I bought another horse for my husband to learn to ride on.
I decided to splash out and buy rubber matting, because I was told it was easy to use and cost effective in the long run. It aslo helps horses with athritis, which one of my guys has.
It was expensive, approx 60 pounds per mat, and each 12 X 12 stable needed approx 5 mats. I used good quality straw bedding just to add banks, and because horses dont like to pee if it is likely to splash their legs. It was so easy to clean, just a quick sweep, and it drained superbly.
I found that one of my...
