Hippo Plus 10 degree Driver - Graphite - Left Handed, Europe's top selling woods Hippo Plus Oversize Wood 10 Degree Driver A genuinely exciting update to what has been one of the best selling wood models in Europe over that past 10 years A combination of Maraging and 15-5 stainless steel provide exceptional strength and lightness. The use of these high grade steels enables the oversized head, providing added confidence at address A deeper face design and optimum centre of gravity positioning provides a more penetrating ball flight and greater distance The true "through-bore" head design provides superior feel and control providing exceptional feedback through the shaft. The unique proven "Plus" cambered sole enhances tee shots, and makes fairway shots remarkably easy.
Advantages: Cheap, easy to use and well made Disadvantages: Not suited to all golfers. Not for the experts!
...in the different clubs.
If you pick up a set of Hippo Cavity backed irons such as the Plus Pro set I am reviewing, you will see the metal is thicker in certain places. This is to weight it correctly for playing your shots cleaner.
For those that don?t know, the clubs can vary in angle and length to achieve different results and distances . The longest club and least angled face club is a 2 Iron and the shortest and most angled (lofted) club is a Sand Wedge. The clubs in between vary across a scale between the 2. This means a set of irons can go from 2 ? 9, then a Pitching Wedge and lastly a Sand Wedge.
A 2 Iron hits it furthest and lowest. Built for distance. A Sand Wedge is built for getting you out of a bunker. It is made for height but very little distance.
The weighting of the irons varies too. To get the most out of it, the longer distance 2...

Advantages: Very long and very easy to use Disadvantages: Price
...I have recently upgraded to the new Callaway Great Big Bertha II. I changed from using a Callaway Steelhead I, a club I was very reluctant to move away from.
I made the switch as I seemed to be losing distance compared to my playing partners, most of whom now have titanium drivers.
The spec I chose was a firm graphite shaft with 10 degrees of loft. I opted not to go for the Pro-series version (as my handicap is 12) as this is not as forgiving.
There are two types of GBB II, the standard version and the +Plus version. The latter is the one I have but does not conform to USGA rules. living in the UK, this isn't a problem.
The difference between the two is that the +Plus version has a greater COR (Coefficient of Restitution) i.e. put simply, this means the bounciness that the club head provides, hopefully meaning an extra 5 or so yards...

Advantages: Easy to use, great sweet spot Disadvantages: My playing partners call me Hippo
...As a 27 handicapper, I bought these clubs new from the local shop. The only reason I bought them where due to these particular clubs being 1" oversize.
The clubs came with a reputation of 'forgiveness' and forgive they do. The sweet spot is large, a hacker like me can usually hit a good enough shot with the occassional beauty. They always feel fantastic when hitting the sweet spot.
For some reason, I'm able to get heaps of spin from these clubs using standard Wilson staff balls. I've hit hard Australian greens and have stopped them dead.
These clubs give a great feel and inspire confidence at address. I've couple the clubs with Hippo Impact 10.5 driver and a lofty five wood. Being a 27, the above points are important. I've found that having full confidence in my clubs has improved my game allready and will continue to do so....
