Hope Mono Mini Disc Brakes Description: Lever - New lightweight lever giving smooth, progressive feel and more power. Split clamp for easy fitting. Integrated master cylinder reservoir for easy bleeding. Adjustable lever reach. Black hose as standard. Caliper: One piece caliper, machined from solid billet of aluminium with stiffer caliper bridge and 3D machined pockets. As well as reducing weight, this also allows us to make a more rigid caliper, improving the lever feel. Silver caliper with black bore caps allowing access for servicing. Caliper pistons are now made from phenolic to isolate the caliper from the heat generated in the pads. Specifications: System type: Open Lever type: Mini lever Caliper No.\'s: 5 & 9:74 Standard Rotor: 140, 160, & 183 Weight: 375g (inc. lever, hose, 160mm disc, caliper, pads, fluid & all fixing bolts)
Advantages: Stops well, works in mud, doesn't fade Disadvantages: Can be a little trying to get fitted correctly, can be noisy at times
...a lot better if you read the manual first. My front disc took ages to get bled correctly, my rear brake which I bought some time after was bled in minutes with the benefit of hindsight.
Firtting the brake is a little tricky as you'll need to fit spacers to the caliper mounting bolts to make sure that the disc runs central. For the forks that I originally had it fitted to, the spacers supplied with the brake weren't enough and more had to be purchased from that unlikely bike accessory shop, B&Q. Apart from that, unless you need to change the hose length, you can just bolt the disc, caliper and lever to the bike. With the earlier batches of the Mini, Hope were supplying a manual written for their other brakes with only a passing mention of the Mini, which was new for 2001. The newer batches (thankfully) come with a more complete manual...

Advantages: Excellent stopping power, good feedback, ouses quality Disadvantages: None
...from a little bit and it is only a little bit when the discs are wet, but this is hardly noticable,I have not noticed any problems when the brakes get hot and have not found any fade either. There is no adjusting of the pad gap as the pads are wearing down as the Hopemini's are self adjusting and I have found this to work excellent.
I cannot recommend these brakes enough, they ouse quality, they also look fantastic as well. If you are in the market for a brake upgrade then buy the HopeMini's you will not be dissapointed....

Advantages: Excellent lever feel, stopping power, durability Disadvantages: when they squeel, they REALLY squeel
...I've been mountain biking for many years now and over time I've tried a wide array of braking systems on my various bikes. I was always a huge fan of Avid's braking products and had test ridden a number of bikes with their Juicy discs on before deciding on the right bike for me and taking the plunge into speccing my own custom build. The bike was to be a Yeti 575 and the brake choice came down to the HopeMonominis (as fitted to my Orange), Avid Juicys and the Shimano XT. I chose Shimano for various reasons and the following review will hopefully outline why I took this course of action over the much hyped Hope and Avids.
Having tested various systems on demo bikes around the country, it seemed to me that there was little to choose between the braking characteristics of my shortlisted products. However, the Shimano just edged...
