A chifney is something that is used when necessary by some horse owners and is used to prevent a horse from rearing when leading. It can be used in different situations but must be used with care and only ever on the ground. It can be very severe and must only be used appropriately and correctly. I only use this headcollar when im competing and i dont use it for everyday use as its so expensive!! I keep it in a bridle bag, so it doesnt get damp or dusty! Quite excessive!
The leather is lovely and soft but like any leather product they are quite rigid to start off with so before its first use I cleaned it and oiled it so it became a bit more supple.

...this mare. Stephens premium sheepskin is available as a showing numnah as well as other styles. The numnah actually costs £50 so it is quite expensive. However, comfort should not be compromised and it is certainly good quality. I have seen it in black, brown and white. The numnah is sheepskin on the inside and the outside is quilted cotton. It has a strap for the girth to pass through and also straps to wrap around the girth straps to keep the numnah ... ...However, I also use a Stephens general purpose sheepskin numnah on a grey horse. The hairs do show up when they are grey and the numnah is dark. I wash the numnah after each use to keep it clean and to protect my horses back. If sweat is left on the numnah it can cause rubbing. I do not wash every numnah every time, just this one, only if I have used it for a long time. Sheepskin is always nicer before it is washed. It still looks smart though afterwards.

...(though they are not the Weatherbeeta ones). The boots cover the heel area but they go all the way around, covering a lot of the front hoof aswell. This isn`t necessary but if they turn round (which they do), they will still cover the heel. Occassionally I have seen one on a single back foot. Obviously the horse can`t overreach there, but some horses are quite close behind and can unjure themselves while standing on their opposite foot so some people ... ...easy to explain.

My horse is a 16.2hh TB x so I went along to my saddlers and bought a pair in the Large size.
Fitting them was easy and the clip buckles are easy to use. What first attracted me to them was that they were made of neoprene bound with PVC padding which I thought was good for the horse as some of the leather knee boots can be quite hard and stiff.
I hack ... ...For the first time I ensured the boots were properly fastened and in the right place which wasnt a problem.
However half way into the ride I discovered that one of the knee boots had fallen down, luckily we had stopped and another rider had alerted me.
I put the boot back up but yet again 10 minutes later it fell down, I decided to take both of them off and he could go without.
On my next ride I put the boots on again and a bit tighter just incase ...
