Well here we go...My first review on Ciao!

With my A level exams having been hanging over my head for the last few months, I've spent a lot of time indoors revising. Great for my grades (hopefully!), but not so great for my physique, my revision aid of choice being digestive biscuits, naturally! :P

Due to my Mother's home shopping network addiction, we have plenty of hardly-used items around the house, non-stick tupperware, the occasional ornament, and about four different exercise machines! Deciding it was time for a change in habit now my exams are over, I looked to check them out.

The Instant Abs Machine, like many products on the the Home Shopping Network, claims to provide a full workout with minimum effort. Now as we have several of these products dotted around our house somewhere, trust me when I say this one is THE BEST BY FAR!

The machine itself looks very similar to a chair, this in itself is a distinguishing point from the rest of the Ab-Machine world, which usually require you to assume some ridiculous position on the floor and flail about for a while! The upright seated position this system uses also eliminates the risk of neck damage, a fantastic improvement on more conventional abdominal workout systems.

The workout itself is very simple. After folding the chair out of its flat and easy to store form, you simply sit on the sit, and slide your feet into the footholds (it may be necessary to adjust the footholds to your height). From there on it is a simple up and down lifting motion with the legs to workout the front abdominals! Easy!
The side abs can also be "attacked" by simply shifting the rotating seat from side to side, whilst still keeping the up and down rhythm going.
At this juncture I must point out that I find this system quite fun, as it allows for a certain stretch of creativity, and is not monotous like many other systems, which only allow movement in one direction.

As the system is upright, it works on your own body mass to provide the workout. To adjust resistance, all you need to do is move your seating position in the seat. The closer to the front you are, the more work you have to do to lift your body, and therefore the more intense the workout you have to do!

The upright seating position (I'm a big fan of this, if you haven't already gathered! :P) also allows the user to exercise whilst doing other things, like watching T.V. Again, this allows for breaks in the monotonous exercise regime, and allowed me to keep my concentration longer!

Using the system for about 15-30 minutes a day, after only a week or so I was beginning to feel a difference in the strength of my abs, and greater definition came later.

The only minor letdown of the Instant Abs is the seat. Made only out of a thin layer of foam, and covering a cold metal frame, the seat does not provide a great amount of protection, resulting in a bit of a sore bum after intestive workouts!

Apart from this, however, I found the instant abs to be a wonderful way to increase the definition of my abdominals, and with further use, I'll have the sexy 6-pack that all the people on those Damn addictive shopping network ads have!
