Advantages: Addictive, strengths wrist, excellent returns policy Disadvantages: Some find it tricky to master, you'll never put it down!
...I first saw one of these 4 or 5 years ago and once I mastered the technique did not put it down until my friend insisted he had it back. At the time I said I'd buy one but never got round to it. A few weeks ago the same happened again, used a friends and could not put it down. This time though instead of just talking about it I actually bought one! I decided to get a slightly more unusual one, a powerball signature series, it cost me £22 from Amazon and have been very pleased with it.
For those of you who don't know the powerball is basically just a gyroscope, which by moving your hand in the correct manner will speed up exerting a force on your wrist, this force increases the faster you spin it. When spinning at it's highest RPMs (15k+ rpm) it can exert a force of about 20kg on your hand and arm. Due to this relatively large force...

Advantages: Good set of weights, comes with a excercise planner Disadvantages: Badly made Locking collars
...A while back, about 1 year ago I decided to buy some York weights, 30kilos to be exact.
I got home and unpacked the weights, read the instructions on how to piece the whole lot together then started using them.
The set comes complete with:
2 Dumbell bars
2 Outer Barbell Collars
6 Vinyl Locking Dumbell collars
2 plastic Dumbell sleeves
6 x 1” Round internal Caps
2 x 4.5kg Vinyl disks
6 x 2.3kg Vinyl disks
4 x 1.1kg Vinyl disks
2 Training charts
This was all very well but the Locking collars, which were made of Vinyl were a serious design flaw, two of them broke at the nut because they were so feebly made.
Although these are very good weights, at a good price and I have been able to make good use of them that design flaw should have been considered before distribution took place.
The total cost of the weights was £19 at Argos...

Advantages: Safe to you in your own home for all areas of the body Disadvantages: Grips can give sore hands
...Body Sculpture 18kg Combination Dumbbell set.
£20.00 from tesco's
This is a great product if you are looking to tone your body or are a complete beginner.
Using these weights you can tone every major muscle and for those ladies out there who are worried about building muscle, with only 9Kg per dumbell there isnt really enough weight to do this.
To make sure all you need to do is lift a weight that you can complete 15 repetitions of for 3 sets, ideally feeling hard for the final 3 reps of each set.
If you are looking to build muscle then you need to be working at a much higher intensity whereby you couldnt really lift the weights more than 8 times per set.
The only problem with this equipment is that you will need some gloves to stop your hands becoming sore as being metal they are quite harse, also you dont want hard skin developing...
