...by twisting it, nor is leg power alone sufficient to break a chain. 9 speedchains can withstand as much force as 8 speedchains. However, making the sideplates thinner has made the chain more prone breaking, and it is a problem across all 9 speedchain makes when used off-road. Used on road 9 speedchains appear to be reliable, only becoming a problem with 10speed systems.
One reason cited for chain breakage, is not using the joining link. The act of pushing out a pin, and then reinserting it could weaken the sideplate/pin interface. Breakages are still reported to occur with properly joined chains.
I have had only one incident where a 9 speedchain snapped on me. It was a 971 chain. The chain snapped on the flat under moderate pedalling pressure and was 4 months old. This was over 2 years ago. I do not attempt to rejoin chains...

I have not changed any of my spec on this bike, as soon I intend to sell it so I can build my own flantland bike.
So you know how this bike runs, you have to understand that I am short, very short, and 7 stone in weight, so of course I find this BMX very heavy, but overall, it is a heavy bike anyway and can be quite hard to push to get the speed for jumps etc.

Advantages: Cheap, Sturdy, Easy to Use Disadvantages: None
...the roller, then the chain is worn to the limit marked on the tool.
The Park tools chain checker allows you to check for both 1.0% and 0.75% wear. The 0.75% marking allows you to plan chain/sprocket/chainring replacement.
Quality wise the tool appears to be made from stainless steel. No particularly sharp or rough edges, and fits nicely in the hand. The paint used for the graduation marks is tough and shows no sign of wearing off despite being regularly thrown in the bottom of my tool box.
Overall
It's cheap, it won't break, and it does the job...
