Manufacturer's product description
Based upon the popular Khyam Indiana 8 - the largest 8 berth vis-à-vis tunnel tent on the market - this new polycotton version has been produced by Khyam in response to a recent surge in polycotton tents. The advantages of polycotton is that it is more breathable than polyester and consequently makes the interior of the tent much cooler in warm weather and it also 'quieter' than polyester which is a big plus when a breeze is up. The downside is that it will make the overall weight of the tent heavier. Most of the other features of the tent remain the same as the Indiana; a loose, fitted groundsheet which covers the entire footprint area of the tent; 8 berths comprising a 4-berth inner with divider curtain and 2 x 2-berth inners all of which are removable so that the internal living area can be adapted to suit the number of people in the party. Even with both inners in place the tent still offers a generous 3.5m x 3.0m central living area. In addition there are two side exits which prop open to form a canopy with two steel upright poles provided for the purpose. The flysheet is made from double-coated Weatherweave Polycotton. The inner tents are breathable polyester and the groundsheet is polyethylene. The tent features two large PVC windows with mesh tops for additional ventilation and two zip down privacy covers. There are also two additional vents off the bedroom compartments. The frame is a fibreglass (colour coded) pole construction with ring & pin system.
Advantages: Size, waterproof - quick to erect for size - smaller to carry/load compaired to others. Disadvantages: Pole ropes dodgy(?), tricky to shut zip without adjusting pegs, need to tether v. well.
...This is our second Khyamtent as we loved the quick-erect system.
Generally we are pleased with it due to its size (family of four) - if the weather is rainy there is plenty of room. We used it last summer when the floods happened and it was also quite windy. It witheld the rain excellently - it is highly rainproof - another reason why we bought it.
On the negative side we have had the inner cables (ropes) go twice on the main poles. You can fix these fairly easily and Khyam replaced the ropes with no hassle and no expense but I query if there is a weakness here. It can also be quite tricky to set up perfectly to ensure the zip closes on the front door again due to its size - this gets easier with practise.
The only other comment is that when we used it in some quite high winds (floods again!) you need to tether it very well...

Advantages: lots of living space great head hight Disadvantages: thin poles and unable to with stand wind! lots of movement
...my self and my parnter brought this tent because of the excellent amount of living space with a combined camping experience of over 30 years we both know how important putting the tent up just right really is, So after taking 2 hours to make sure that the tent was put up right it then collapsed with a gentle breeze tent poles snapped and ripped the tent ! would not advise this tent to anybody ! dont be taken in by the massive living space avoid at all cost !
The tent was fine in stormes however but useless in slight wind makes no sence at all! also the eyes put in the ground sheet do not match up so ok you have full ground sheet but then it not that full as there are lots of trip hazords....

Advantages: Easy to erect, large, simple construction Disadvantages: Heavy to Carry
...The Madrid is what is known as a 'tunnel' tent. This basically means that it is tunnel shaped, with an entrance at one end and 2 bedrooms at the other. The front door can be zipped out completely, leaving a gaping mouthed tunnel, or part of it can be rolled back and tied to one side, leaving a smaller, yet still fairly large gaping hole.
SIZE
The main attraction of this tent to ourselves was the overall size. As it's name suggests this is a 5 man deluxe tent so there is plenty of space for a couple. There are 2 bedroom areas, one which we use as the master bedroom that should sleep 3 people, and another that we use as a wardrobe/changing area that sleeps 2 people. Personally I wouldn't recommend that 5 adults go away for any length of time in this tent, unless you were very good friends and regularly slept together in very close quarters...
