The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can.

The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time.

The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it up between us then I'm sure others could easily. We have reduced the pitching time to around 30 - 45 minutes now, which is not bad considering. One good thing though, is that although the tent is large it still fits on most pitches so no extra charges.

The tent has 3 inners. All or some can be removed if wanted. The largest is 6 berth. This is used by our 4 children and is just big enough for their airbeds and a little space between them for their bags, etc. There is two divider curtains to split this area into three. The next size is four berth. This is the one we use and we have a queen size, double height bed. We have about a foot and a half either side which is just enough to get in and out. Again a dividing curtain allows you to split this this into two. lastly is a two berth inner. We use this for storage and for the toilet at night. Each bedroom has storage pockets at the side and back. There is also small rings for hanging lights.

The bedrooms are either end giving ample living space in the middle. We can easily fit enough chairs plus a couple of large tables into the area. In the middle of the ceiling is a ring to hang lights and velcro goes down to the electric cable zip point.

On the front of the tent is a small porch. This really doesn't have much use as it is so small. It is just big enough to leave shoes in but needs to be kept closed when ranining as it is not big enough to keep the rain out. As we have bought a Gelert Porch we use this as the back door. It is just big enough to put a small airer in for drying off towels when it is wet outside.

At the back, which we use as the front is another door. This does not have a porch though.

I have a couple of issues with the doors but these are only minor. On the front door you can only tie up the net screen or the door as only one toggle is fitted. Because the net is on the inside you also have to unzip all of that in order to roll up the door. On the back door there are two toggles fitted. My other gripe is the windows. There are two large windows, one front, one back, beside the doors. These area great but as the 'curtains' are outside you need to go out to roll them up. Not great if it is pouring down.

Khyam did not make a carpet for this tent but we found a Gelert one that fitted nicely.

As for the poles, they have withstood plenty of wind. So far after two years of use, only one fibreglass pole has split. This has been repaired and is still holding up. Two spares come with the tent. These 5 poles go across the top with steel ones holding them up at the sides.

The tent is 5000HH, and this has again, been put to the test on a number of times. Apart from a few leaks on seams on our first use we have not had any water coming through.

A couple of the seams have ripped on the storm flaps but I think this is due to incorrect pegging and pressure being put on the wrong place. It hasn't however affected the tent in any way.

Putting the tent back in the back is another story and on our last trip we just managed to get the tent in when the zip came off the end so we will have to find a new one before next season.

Overall, a good tent and one I think we will find hard to replace when the time comes.
