Konnekt 2 tandem
Why a tandem – my children spent a week on holiday and whilst they were away my partner and I discovered cycling. We had both recently bought bikes in an effort to get fit and cycled a mere 3 ½ miles to and from work. Anyway, we were out everyday after work, discovering country lanes and the likes. When the children came home they joined our daily jaunts – for a day – then my daughter said the distances were too much for her (she’s only 9). Hence, I bought the tandem for me and her to continue the favourite family pastime!
So to the tandem – a Konekt 2 bought on e-bay for only £220.00 – a real bargain if you look at traditional tandem prices. An 18 inch frame front and back – suitable for about 4”6’ upwards. When it arrived it was flat packed so I set to work with the mighty allen key and screwdriver. A handlebar needed straightening and peddles putting on as well as the rear seat. All set up and ready to go within about and hour.
The Technical Spec: This Konekt2 adult tandem comes equipped with many excellent features . It provides an entry into the world of tandem cycling. Fitted with a powerful front disc brake for easy stopping, 21 speed Shimano gears, sprung super comfy saddles & robust 26" x 2.25 tyres for added comfort . Its 18" frame size make it ideal for novices of all ages, allow you to share your cycling experience as never before. Twice the fun.

The first ‘test drive’ was on my own, with my 12-year-old son shouting encouragement. What hit my straightaway was the balance, though it only took a few moments to get the feel of the tandem. Next was the superb shimono gears and extremely smooth braking system – both far better than my bike. Then, onto the real tandem stuff – my son hopped onto the back. If I can do this with him then it should be easy with my daughter. Apart from his ‘I can’t see where we’re going’ comment followed by him leaning far to one side to look round me– this results in me fighting to keep a straight line and not falling off, all was well.
Next – the family outing. My daughter loves the tandem; the trouble is my son does too! Nice children arguments as to who goes on it! Anyway, the family outing. We all cycle off into the sunset and thoroughly enjoy the experience. My daughter no longer complains of feeling tired (I do thoughJ). We’ve notched up quite a few miles now and are looking for more interesting venues to cycle to. All four of us seem to really enjoy it. I’ve even taken to picking her up from school on it – better than the car!
So – would I recommend tandem cycling – if the children are the right ages then yes, definately. The tandem I bought – a very good price for a decent bike – the only change I made was to buy a smaller saddle for my daughter, as the saddles were quite large and fairly hard.
Tandem and family – gave us all something to do together, which we actually all enjoy!
