Advantages: Excellent performance in wet/muddy conditions, rim friendly, good wear rates Disadvantages: Pricier than the competition
...This review is for the dual compound cartridge pads. They are black/salmon in colour.
A bit of History
The real secret of the KoolStop's superior braking power is the salmon compound. Originally it was developed by Scott-Mathauser, and was recognised as the finest brakepads available, both for it's superior stopping power and durable compound. KoolStop was under contract to Scott-Mathauser to manufacture their pads.KoolStop obtained the rights to manufacture the salmon pads when Scott-Mathauser went out of business. The secret of the pads is that they contain iron oxide (i.e. rust), and work on the same principle as sintering does for disc brakepads. They dramatically improve wet weather braking performance as well as wear.

Advantages: quality and value Disadvantages: none really!
...Obviously with the high amounts of pressure and heat which travel through brakepads and the almost implicit faith which you have to place in them when cycling you need to trust your brakepads and know that if you need to stop they’re going to have the performance there to help you slow down as quickly as you need.
I've used the KoolStop's for many years and have never been disappointed once by the value or quality and would even admit to sometimes being surprised that they ‘still’ don’t need replacing even when I cannot remember the last time I did. I use disk brakes on most of my bikes these days but the ones which do continue to use rim brakes will always use KoolStoppads…
Really impressed and would most definitely be my highest recommended rim brakepad......

Advantages: Very very sturdy, easy to fix and fun to ride, great bearings. Disadvantages: Quite heavy, not ideal for flatland.
...third year and I have never had any major issues with it, when it arrived it was in pieces because of postage and I found it very easy to build.
The best points of this bike are the bearings the wheels and crank run forever without having any maintenance of being changes. The gyro runs very smoothly.
I have managed to slighly buckle the back wheel rim, but as it's slight, at the risk of doing anymore damage I have left it.
I still have the original GT tyres on the bike and they have worn so well, this bike has been ridden so much, as I used to use to to commute to work on a daily basis.
The breaks on this GT aren't great, no matter how often you adjust them, or try out different pads, you just cannot get anough traction to stop effiecently, but this is quite common with most BMX's and you get used to it very quickly and know when...
