Kool Stop Eagle II Caliper Pads

At last a V-brake pad for mudlovers

Advantages: Excellent performance in wet/muddy conditions, rim friendly, good wear rates
Disadvantages: Pricier than the competition

Kool Stops patented plough tip. On the leading edge of the pad (i.e. the part that contacts the rim first), the pad has a raised edge. Its job is to act like a squeegee, cleaning muck of rim surface, allowing the brake pad behind to grip onto a clean rim. This feature also helps reduce rim wear by cleaning off grit and other abrasive particles. To further improve wet weather performance the pad has 2 triangular cutaway sections which work in a similar fashion to the grooves in tyre tread which force water to the outside of the tyre allowing the rubber to grip the road surface. How do they Perform? In the dry, you won't notice much difference between a Kool Stop pad and a good quality pad of another manufacturer. I certainly can't. Review of Kool Stop Pads - All Cartridge V Brakes

It's Kool

Advantages: Great Live recording and excellent tracks
Disadvantages: Final song fades out too soon

I have a somewhat eclectic taste in music and it's not unusual to find Guns N Roses in my CD player at the same time as boy band music and cheesy 80's pop. I'm particularly fond of Soul, Motown & Funk with a healthy dollop of Disco thrown in. Review of The Collection - Kool & The Gang

Touch pad was useless on 2 of these

Advantages: Long battery life (untested), nice screen
Disadvantages: Faulty touch pad on two of these

I bought one of these for my step-daughter from Argos. There was a problem with the touch pad - it kept freezing up. The pointer would not move on the screen. It seemed to be completely random. Some of the time it worked fine... then it would just freeze. Other times it was doing it every few minutes. I took it back and swapped it for another one. That was better... it only froze once. But this one had a different problem. The pointer jumped as I moved my finger across the middle of the pad. It made it impossible to use. I gave up and had a refund. I presume from all the good review for this laptop that either I just hit a bad batch of these, or some people don't use the touch pad. It looked like quite a nice machine otherwise - the screen looked good, and it seemed reasonably fast. ...
