I joined La Fitness - Sutton Coldfield just under a year ago and I am counting the days until it ends. I thought this gym would be a good choice as it was close to the train station where I get off and would encourage me to go more frequently. There is a Bannatyne at New Oscott but I couldn't face the traffic on the Chester Road.
I secured a corporate deal by introducing our company to LA Fitness. As I forgot my card on the day I actually went to sign up, I missed the deal to upgrade so that I would be able to use any gym for the same price. This would've helped me as I could've used the branch in town as I work nearby.
When I joined I noticed that there was often equipment that wasn't working and was left for a fairly long time before it was fixed. The air conditioning is only on now and then and the swimming pool's heating frequently doesn't work - I have actually been in outside pools that are warmer than theirs. Now there is no air conditioning as it is broken and it has been out of order in the cardio area for over a week and they still haven't had it authorised for repair. To add insult to injury, the staff don't even apologise for the inconvenience.
When I have been a member of other gyms, there are usually staff in the gym area where you can ask advice, assistance or get new ideas. I think in the time I have been a member, I have only seen one member of staff up in the gym area. They are usually round the back of the reception desk gossiping. If you ask for help, they look at you in disgust for interupting them.
I have found this the most disapointing gym I have ever been a member of. I would definately not recommend this gym to anyone. I look forward to the end of my contract so I can leave.
