Advantages: Unique idea and fun Disadvantages: A bit expensive
...Heelys are 'Shoes that Cruise'. They are uniquely designed to let you walk, run, roll and skate due to the removable wheel(s) in the heel. They are akin to roller/inline skates but with a difference. Put the wheel in to skate, remove to walk.
Since writing this review originally in 2005, Heelys are more popular now (in 2008) amd are a lot easier and cheaper to come by. Even Amazon sell them now with prices starting at about £35, which is no more expensive than a pair of trainers.
What are Heelys?
Heelys look like an ordinary pair of trainers but with either one or two removable wheels in the heel which you can see in the photos below. They also come with a wheel mounted either side of the heel.
My review is based on the single removable wheel. My teenage son has had 2 pairs of these over the past 3 years (he grew out...

Advantages: Affordable, Comfortable, and fast grinds. Disadvantages: I can't think of any.
...I ordered these skates with the Genesis 2 frames and Salomon Wide Bodies. However, you do not need the wide bodies, the skate has a decent soul area, but the wide bodies make it better (my opinion). I heard the frames it comes with are ok, but they break easily, so I would recommend getting an upgraded set. When I first put on these skates, I thought I slipped on another sock. The boot molded right to my foot and made for a very comfortable ride. After I put my skates together, I went outside to skate for a little while. Right away, I could do a Royale, and comfortably too. I had not been able to do one before because my ST1s have terrible soul areas, and right...

Advantages: fun, something different, comfortable Disadvantages: a bit pricey, takes practice
...Heelys are the trainers with the wheel in the heel which were invented by a (now very rich) man called Roger Adams They have been popular in America for a few years and they even have Heelys pro teams as a lot of the skateboarders have got into it. Heelys only really became popular in the UK at the end of last year and everywhere you go it now seems there are kids flying around on them. However its not just kids who buy them, trust me, i work in a shop that sells them and have sold them to plenty of adults, as they are available up to adults uk size 11.
The wheels are completely removable and are taken out by hand so that they can be kept clean and dry and also to turn the Heelys into normal trainers but you can walk in Heelys in between skating with the wheels left in in a similar way you would walk in heeled shoes with the weight...
