I was lured into buying the Lateral Thigh Trainer with the promise that it was the only exercise machine I would ever need. As well as being able to vary the resistance (from slow to fast) for a cardio or toning workout, it also claimed to be able to tone up your thighs, bottoms, hips and tums.
How it works: Unlike traditional steppers which just move up and down, the Lateral Thigh Trainer adds a twisting motion which means you also move from side to side. In this way, you are able to target more muscle groups for an efficient workout. Additionally, there is a resistance bar at the front which goes from numbers 1-7. Number one has the most resistance giving an intense toning workout, and number seven has very little resistance. This means you can step faster for a cardio-vascular workout. A calorie counter is included and has the additional features of counting your steps and telling you how long you've been on the machine for.
On arrival: The Lateral thigh Trainer arrived almost fully assembled and within 10 minutes was ready to go thanks to the easy-to-folow instruction manual. Included in the package was a short workout DVD featuring Brenda Dygraff (the irritating lady in the commercials), and a healthy eating leaflet which, to be fair, doesn't tell you anything new about dieting.
The test: When I tried it for the first time I was pleasantly surprised. It was incredibly easy to use once I got the hang of the twist, which put me off balance for a while. I felt the muscles in my hips and thighs working almost immediately, however, no matter how hard I tried my abdominal muscles were not getting a workout. I was also a little concerned that the resistance bar - which I had on the slow setting - was slipping. After 5 minutes I was no longer getting an intense toning workout as the resistance bar had moved up the numbers to the fast setting by itself. After consulting the instructions, I found that there was a tightening bolt for such a problem underneath the stepper. This worked for about five minutes before I felt it loosening again. The bolt couldn't be tightened further so I telephoned the company who supplied the LTT and was offered a replacement. But with the hefty price tag of £89.95 I refused.
The Lateral Thigh Trainer was, in my opinion, cheaply made and is an unreliable piece of exercise equipment.

Advantages: Quick effective workout easy to follow dvd felt and saw almost immediate effects Disadvantages: A little bit heavy to slide out to use and away after use but advantages outweigh this
