Lets get one thing straight : the Micra is not in the Same league as its bigger brothers from the Leatherman Family : The Wave, Pulse, PST. PST 200 etc.

It was the first of a series of smaller tools that had the same "fold out" design that was aimed at the "Office Warrior/Survival Expert". This range has expanded to 3/4 size tools (The Juice Range) and a slightly improved Micra series known as the Squirt - if you need a really compact pair of pliars go for the Squirt.

Anyway back to the micra. Theres two boxes - a nice Presentation box and a simple cardboard carton. If your going for a gift get the Metal presentation box. Inside you find a sheath for the tool (Virually useless - theres no belt clip so you may as well throw this away) the Micra itself and the instructions.

On the tool itself are a pair of scissors, a knife, a flat head and phillips screwdrivers, tweezers, medium screwdriver/bottle opener combo, nail cleaner and nail file. Theres is a ruler in both metric and imperial units along the edges of the tool and a lanyard attacment. Now you may have noticed something missing. Yes thats right : The Can opener. Whilst most urban warriors wont be missing this its still something to bear in mind if giving one as a gift to an "Outdoorsy" person. Hint : They come in a variety of colours - get it engraved - it looks a class act!

The Scissors are quite a step up from any Swiss Knife although its not for cutting through thick rope or anything The spring loadings quite handy as it reliably opens the scissors for you after you cut down on something.

To get acess to any of the impliments you must open the tool out - it helps that the sides are spring loaded via a mechanism built into the tool - maintainace free and it will last! Then its a case of pulling out an impliment and closing the tool back up again. Why do this i hear you ask? Well if you were to use the blade and it folded in on your fingers you wouldnt be very happy, would you!? Its not an entirely fool proof system and but theres more user protection than on your average Swiss army knife.

The tools themselves are nothing exceptional - they all work as advertised - bar the tweezers, as they dont come out of the tool. Ruler is a bit of a gimic - i find i would have no user for it. Just remember none of the impliments will work as well as a sperate tool - but thats only to be expected and they do a deacent job.

Anyway to sum it all up the micra is the sort of thing to keep on you key ring. Its small, durable and comes with the 25 year Guarantee that leatherman are known for - as stated in my review of the wave they are great about replacing things.

Question is do you want to spend £30-35 on a key ring tool?
