As we've said elsewhere on the site, every manufacturer seems to be producing an 8-berth vis-ā-vis style tunnel tent for the 2006 season. Lichfield is no exception and, in our view, this one of the best (if not the best) of the lot! The look and the styling of the tent plus the way it sits exceptionally close to the ground (like a sheepdog) make an immediate favourable impression. The two 4-berth bedroom (with divider) sit either side of a large (9m2) living area which has 2 entrances from it plus two 3-way windows to keep the interior light and airy. There is also a third door situated behind one of the bedroom inners to give that extra flexibility. Other features include flysheet first pitching; Protex 200 durable polyester flysheet, fully taped seams; double doors on inner tents; bathtub groundsheets in the inners; riser (draft excluder) groundsheet to the living area; multiple vent points; heavy duty pole sleeves; fibreglass poles (plus two steel porch poles); Carry bag and repair kit.
Advantages: Easy to erect, large, simple construction Disadvantages: Heavy to Carry
...and a gusty wind gets up, you startle awake and begin to worry, did you peg everything in? Will the tent stand up to the weather? You didn't. It doesn't, and the following morning the tent is in the bin, you're on your way to an expensive hotel booked at very short notice and the violent act occurred on the second day of the holiday.
Having spoken to a few of my friends I have come to the realisation that these incidents actually do happen. Fortunately they have never happened to me (although it was a close run thing with the barbeque). Perhaps I am a calm kind of person (although I do tend to be right most of the time) or maybe we just have a fabulous tent that is easy to put up, take down and is sturdy and dry in all types of weather.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to introduce to you the Lichfield Madrid 5DLX .

Advantages: value for money, ease of erecting, space, ventilation, weight Disadvantages: ventilation, mine leaked
...I bought this tent from a discount online store.
This is a tunneltent and relies entirely on being properly pegged to stay erect but once it's pitched I found it more stable in the wind than any dome. On my own I can have it up in 5 minutes.
The living area is almost the same size as the inner tent and big enough to kneel up in. The tent comfortably sleeps 2 adults and accomodates 2 adults and a small child. The living area sets it apart from any dome tent especially for camping in the UK where the weather is so unpredictable. You could easily cook and spend a few hours in there without feeling uncomfortable!
It's also good for cycling as bikes and luggage can be stored in the front and it only weighs 4.2kg which is a good bit less than similar makes.
Inner tent has a lot of vents; good for summer but if it's cold...

Advantages: lots of living space great head hight Disadvantages: thin poles and unable to with stand wind! lots of movement
...my self and my parnter brought this tent because of the excellent amount of living space with a combined camping experience of over 30 years we both know how important putting the tent up just right really is, So after taking 2 hours to make sure that the tent was put up right it then collapsed with a gentle breeze tent poles snapped and ripped the tent ! would not advise this tent to anybody ! dont be taken in by the massive living space avoid at all cost !
The tent was fine in stormes however but useless in slight wind makes no sence at all! also the eyes put in the ground sheet do not match up so ok you have full ground sheet but then it not that full as there are lots of trip hazords....

When (if) you read the bible, you often come across characters that pop up only once, and are in the spotlight for a moment, and then disappear again... but you suspect they have more story to tell than is recorded. For example, the story of Joseph (and... more
