...that many machines (between 2-6 of each machine). They cover just about everything; there are steppers, several running machines, plenty of cross trainers, 4 rowers, 4 recumbentcycles and 2 normal cycles. They also have a full range of weights machines and free weights. They have made sure that there's an adequate supply of the most popular machines such as the runners and cross trainers, these are always the first to get used up at peak times. The machines are quite tightly packed in, but they are sensibly arranged in lines so you can get between them easily enough (well, depending on excess pork-pie consumption I suppose). It's also air-conditioned, not that it stops me going fire-engine red when running though!
There's cardio theatre so you can workout whilst watching the tv or listening to the radio on headphones. There's no way I would...

Advantages: small, easy to use, cheap Disadvantages: not accurate
...After buying a mountain bike over a year ago, I must admit I hardly ever use it. This year I've started making a few changes to my life and one is to start some form of exercise to become slightly fitter - so I bought a cycling computer !
No it won't make me fit but I thought it would act as an incentive to get me out and about because its a new gadget for me to play with but obviously have to travel far to test it properly.

When I get home from work I read the booklet - yes us men can read booklets its just half the time we choose not too...

Advantages: Good prices, good equipment, video library, free soft drinks and newspapers, free parking, women only gym Disadvantages: Not central, need £1 for the lockers
...). What is not standard is that you need £1 to operate the lockers (this is refunded). Most other Fitness First lockers operate by inserting your membership card into a slot. The changing rooms are clean, and the lockers are an adequate size. There are two sets of showers, with free shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. There are also hairdryers and large mirrors. There is a private changing cubicle for the bashful.
On the gym floor is the usual assortment of machines, again common to all Fitness Firsts. What is also common is that they have a bank of TVs at the front of the gym, and most appliances have a headphone jack, for the headphones you were given when you joined. There are also radio stations. Unfortunately, at the moment, two or three of the monitors are not tuned to the stations they are supposed to be on...
