Light & Motion mobile is a perfect start for your little one

Advantages: Educational, relaxing, good from birth, very good volume control
Disadvantages: Eats batteries, expensive, preset volume too high, doesn't like rotation interrupted

worried about when I first saw them. The little slide and click noises they make are actually quite rythmic and relaxing. The top disc had a butterfly in the centre in a sort of stained glass effect. The parts of the butterfly and the sections between it and the rim were filled with different coloured water and would move around as the disc spins. The disc sits below the light so this was a nice visual for my son. You can use the mobile in different settings depending on whether you want music, mobile or light. You can also remove the mobile once your child can reach up and pull on it (which plays havoc with the rotation motor) and turn it into a music box only. Review of Tiny Love Symphony Light & Motion Mobile

Powerful (if ugly) light

Advantages: Very, very bright; Build quality
Disadvantages: Large; Ugly

Bike lights have been coming on in leaps and bounds recently, with LEDs starting to be exploited to remarkable effect. The Blackburn have shown the benefits of that evolution to the full with their Quadrant front light. As it suggests the name Quadrant means there are four LEDs mounted in this space-age looking contraption. If I'm looking to be picky I'll list this here and now as the only drawback to the light - it's ugly, really ugly. And it's pretty big as well (it has to be, it's powered by four AA batteries), though it managed to fit in between some gear levers and a bell on the bars it was mounted on). But with that out of the way I have to move on to the extensive positives with this light. Review of Blackburn Quadrant Front Bike Light

Light up your mother in law!

Advantages: Excellent level of light, work very well, cheap
Disadvantages: None for us so far

My mother in law was coming to visit us a few weeks ago and we were getting things ready in our new cottage. She has recently had a hip replacement operation and is recovering very well but we wanted to make sure that the cottage was as safe as we could possibly make it for her. One of the things we wanted to get was a night light of some sort as she usually gets up in the night to go to the toilet. We looked at the ones available in B & Q and chose a Motion Detector LED Night Light by Masterplug. The pack contained 2 plug-in night lights and cost £9.98. The lights come packed in a see through plastic package with a cardboard insert so that's all recycleable then.
