Advantages: Well positioned. Friendly staff, good prices Disadvantages: Classes are cancelled regularly
...with the gym that stop it from being a great gym.
The staff keep changing regularly giving you no sense of who they are and wondering how long they are going to be there. But maybe a high staff turnover is part of the fitness industry I don't know. As I said before there not enough benches around the free weights but this is only at the very busiest of times which is after work around 6 pm. Because of the limited space downstairs the changing rooms are cramped. And also for the past 6 months there have been plumbing problems or something of the like because the showers aren't as hot as some people would like them.
Saying all that, overal, its a very good value for money for a gym right in the middle of birmingham. And even better value for a student with their special cut price membership for you....

Advantages: Lots of exercises, easy to switch between exercises, more portable than a multigym, excellent value for money. Disadvantages: Not enough resistance, unable to allow for proper form on some exercises
...I have a Total Gym, which I bought when work pressures prevented from going to the gym. For many exercises it's a fantastic alternative and it lets you do so much on what is effectively a small machine. The main problems I had with it were the angle of resistance and amount of resistance. For example, if I'm doing a chest press, the resistance is actually coming from waist level and it doesn't feel right. I outgrew the resistance (60% of your bodyweight) and I replaced the Total Gym with a Bodyrail. It's just like a cable machine that uses up to 90% of your own bodyweight instead of a weight stack. Plus you can add an extra 100ibs of weights to it. It feels just...

Advantages: Good value for family membership Disadvantages: Ladies changing room full of chidren running riot
...Before joining cannons I was taken on a short tour showing all the facilities and given a timetable of the classes. There are certainly a wide variety of classes to suit everyone, at any fitness level. There is also the opportunity to have an individual fitness appraisal, and get a fitness program for you to follow which is tailored to your exact needs.
Most of the classes are free for members, with only a few, like Pilates and Salsa requiring further payments.
I joined Cannons because I wanted to get some regular exercise in a calm and relaxing environment. I knew it was expensive with the one off membership fee and the monthly direct debit, but I thought that it would be worth it to be able to swim regularly in clean and calm surroundings.
I was very disappointed when I did join.
There is no family changing area. Instead the Female...
