There was once a limpet called Limpy. Being the gastropod version of Adam (that Adam & Eve fellow), it was his job to find lady limpets and make babies, in the hope that one day his limpet race would rule the World!! With the evil streak that flickered in his eye, who would have bet against it?!

In my eyes, the human races saviour came in the form of a hairy bloke called Roger. Roger was a caveman who one day discovered that the limpet actually made plausible bait for catching fish on.

<< It was 1,000 years after Limpy’s first bit of rumpy-pumpy and his families control over the World was reaching scary levels – even for the beer belly bongo men!!! >>

Roger was out fishing for Wrasse off of a rocky headland somewhere near Toy Town when he noticed the limpets trying to eat his trousers.

“Get away from me!!” he yelled.

Picking up a seagull feather, he spent the next hour trying to beat away the onward march of trouser eating shell things. Shelled carcasses slumped away in to rock pools where the gobies had a field day devouring them a piece at a time.

Finally, he was victorious. As a nail in the coffin, he slipped 3 medium sized limpets (after expertly running his knife around the insides of the shell) on to his 1/0 hook (not easy considering how tough their bodies are but 1/0 seems about right normally) and cast them out under his float. It didn’t take long before he’d caught himself one o those hard fighting Wrasse.

“Uummm”, he thought. “Think I’ll try that again!!”

He did, but this time he had no luck. The bait elastic he used to make the whole bunch look more presentable did its job but the fishies still wouldn’t have it. His lug and rag though carried on producing.

He had little success on future trips also (having tried them off both rocky marks as well as sandy beaches), so deciding that the limpets are only a bait for the poor, desperates!! Subsequently, it is a now little used bait by our Worldly saviour – 3 CHEERS FOR ROGER THE HAIRY CAVEMAN!!!

Having caught *some* fish on the ‘trouser eaters’, he had both found another way of catching Wrasse (as he’d never caught anything else on them), AND saved the world from limpetyness. Now that it is a well known fact among anglers that these FREE, EASY TO FIND, very TOUGH (good in strong tides) SOMETIMES WORK(!!), the limpet population is being successfully controlled and the World is a safer place (although that is questionable at times!!).
