Livingwell in Peterborough
Livingwell are part of the Hilton group and they opened their Peterborough Premier club in early 2001. The club quickly established it’s self as the most exclusive club in Peterborough. Livingwell and Hilton pride themselves on customer care.
When arriving at the club you are welcomed by a friendly smile and a pleasant greeting as you show your card, you’re given a towel and pointed in the direction of the changing rooms.
As you step through the reception the room open out into a café/bar. A vast stylish area with a large television, adequate seating and a smell of fresh coffee in the air. At the bar you can buy a range of things from bottled alcohol to chocolate muffins (just the treat after a hard workout).
As you carry on walking towards the changing room you pass the crèche. I must admit I know very little about this as I have no children but I am led to believe they offer a very good service
As you reach the changing room and brace yourself for that all-familiar smell of sweat and deodorant, you are great by a spacious air-conditioned room with televisions playing MTV. There is a pleasant smell of flowers (They must put it in the air-conditioning). While in the changing room you are treated to a few novelties, free shower gel and shampoo, free hair dryers and a designated wet and dry changing area.
Travelling up some stairs to the gym you pass the to class rooms that offer classes such as Yoga, Pilates, Spinning, Body Combat, Body Pump, Circuits, Legs Bums and Tums and the Bikini workout!
Just Past the classrooms the gym opens out into a massive room. They have rows and rows of equipment, to say it was well stocked would be somewhat of an understatement. The resistance machines are plentiful and there is a designated free weights area, which is maybe a little on the small side.
Back down to the changing rooms, quick change and a shower and it’s through to the swimming pool. The swimming pool is I believe 20m by 10m. It is well maintained, as my eyes never sting when I get out. It is 4ft deep the whole way across meaning the only time a lifeguard is on duty is when there are kids in the pool, which is not very often.
There is a Spa joined to pool which is good to relax those aching muscle from the gym, again it is well maintained as I never have stinging eyes from that either.
Two steam rooms and two saunas can be found on the side of the pool each well maintained and spacious.
Also to be found at the club is The Sensory, I have never used the facility myself but have spoken to many people who have and it comes highly recommended. At The Sensory they do various treatment from haircuts to massages.
Value for money?
At £47 a month for the peak membership they are the most expensive in the area and with a joining fee of over a £100, your commitment to the gym wants to be long-lived. They do cheaper membership with restrictions on use and from what I can tell their price change on almost a daily basis.
The main minus points are the staff, now don’t get me wrong the staff are very helpful but they have such a high staff turnover. I have been assigned to so many instructors I have lost count, the faces on reception seem to be ever changing. This all conspires to make you feel like a mere number on their books, just another face in the crowd, which is a real shame.
To sum up this is not the cheapest club in the area but it is the one with the most facilities and the best feel, in this case I’m afraid you get what you pay for, membership of Peterborough’s best health club.
Advantages: amount of equipment and number of classes Disadvantages: classes get booked very quickly
...no, im being serious.
