Threatening Behaviour with a D-Lock

Cycle security is something that is essential these days, especially when I live. So when choosing a lock you need to get something that is secure. This lock cost me 25 quid from my local bike shop, and if it is not stocked by yours then ask for advice. It is a D-Lock, which means that it is D shaped, obviously. The most security you can get in a genuinely usable lock

Advantages: Really secure, not too small, not too heavy
Disadvantages: Too small for locking to general street furniture - Mounting bracket is a joke.

This is about the most secure lock you can use on your bike. It's just about long and wide enough to attach to most official bike posts and railings whilst still being small enough to make opening it with a car jack problematic. It's highly resistant to cutting tools, sufficient that cutting the post the bike is attached to would be the better option. It is a bit heavy, perhaps heavier than most locks of this size but still an easy carry in a back-pack. ...
...if you're going to jump kerbs or hit big potholes then don't use it. Removing the part of the bracket that attaches to the lock also makes it easier to fit through tight spaces. Kryptkeeper Lock

Advantages: self coiling and weather resistant
Disadvantages: the bracket it weak

this is a very strong lock wich I had to buy because I live in a bad area eg If I sit my bike down and turn my back for 2 mins when I turn back round It will be gone. but when I got this lock the instructions said you should put it on the plastic bracet wich is attached to your seat wich can esiley be removed so I put it right through the frame where it is imposible to remove. note: always have more than one spare key because that was a harsh lesson ...

This is by far the best bike lock that is on the market. Any would-be thieve would just walk away knowing that this is, and looks indestructible !! Its fat chunky with lots of features... The 39-inch chain is made of four-sided trapezoidal chain links that are triple heat-treated boron manganese steel (I copied this from manual impresive ay!). the new york bike lock is undountably the best in the market. I have for years been quite a keen bike rider but regretfully a year ago i had my bike nicked while at the swimming pool. the reason it was stolen was because i was using a chain locka and not a u-bar lock like the excellent new york lock. for a test i even tried to saw through it witha hacksaw but it took such a long time to make even a scratch so i gave up. i would definately recommend ...
