Why skipping?
Well we started running back in November 2008 and there were times when it was just too cold and icy to run outside ,so I went to the local sports shop and
bought a 'speedrope' ,hoping I could still exercise when it had snowed.
It was £10 which seemed pricey but was much cheaper and more convenient than a treadmill.
It was slow progress and even when I had mastered the three minutes simple jumping without stopping, I would still find myself tripping on the loops in the
rope as it mangled during the routine.
My rope was supposedly able to rotate within ball bearings in the handle but often didnt seem to do so. It was frustrating ,especially as my skipping
improved and I wanted to continuously skip rather than using the tangle as a breathing space.

The SkippingRope Snake is a picture story book aimed at young children and written by Carol Ann Duffy and illustrated by Lydia Monks. It's based on a fun idea about a little girl who goes walking in the jungle one day looking for a game to play! She tries playing joining the dots by using a leopard's spots, then tries playing snap with a crocodile and pinning the tail on an elephant. None of these really seems to work but finally she spots a snake which she can use as a skippingrope - hence the title!
The rest of the story shows her playing with the skippingrope whilst the snake is looking on slightly aghast! The story finishes with the happy girl fast asleep with the snake hanging from a hook in the playroom, talking in his sleep. His last words are the rather corny line - 'Fangs for the Memory'.
