There are pros and cons to having short and long boots. What I tend to do now is walk around the yard in my short boots, muck and and then when I ride just put on my chaps with the short boots. The boots that I bought were Loveson Grantham and they are leather look PVC. They had a red lining and removable inner sole. I thought they appeared good quality compared with a lot of the other long rubber riding boots. They were around £35 at the time which made them a bit more expensive than other rubber but the quality was much better. The boots come in normal width or wide as well as half sizes.
When I first tried the boots on I was very impressed with the lining. It was a burgundy red colour, slightly padded with a removable inner sole making them very comfortable. Being leather look aswell it made the boots excellent quality for rubber riding boots. I wore them every day for ages. They were comfortable, easy to clean and still looked good. I was able to wear them for every day hacking and also at shows as they were smart enough for this.
After a short while the lining came away form the boots. This happened gradually, I would have to put them back in each time when I took them off. Eventually they came away completely and I had to cut them away. I still continued to wear the boots as they had lots of life left in them but some of the comfort was lost without the lining. The Boots still looked smart from the outside though and were still usable.
I had the boots for a long time and I wore them all of the time. I found them good value but would have prefered the lining to have lasted longer. It was worth paying more than for other rubber riding boots as they were much more smart and versatile. Obviously they were not as smart as leather boots but were a fraction of the cost. When I eventually did throw them away I did not replace them with the same. I bought loveson short leather jodhpur boots which I was pleased with.

I prefer to ride in separate boots and chaps or gaiters as they are less restrictive, easier to put your heel down. I have leather boots and gaiters for shows, they look like long leather boots and they are very smart. I do not regret buying the Loveson PVC leather look boots as they did me a great service for a long time allowing me to manage with just the one pair of boots.
For someone just starting out I would recommend the Loveson Grantham long PVC leather look boot. I think they are a good investment. This is because of their versatility as they look smarter than other rubber riding boots meaning that they are acceptable for shows. If on a budget it s possible to manage with one pair of boots. People will get the feel for what they find the most comfortable to ride in and which look they prefer. Some may continue to wear this style of boot finding it more comfotable. I like to have a choice for different situations. Loveson offer a wide range of choice and styles so I would definately recommend buying Loveson.
Advantages: Comfy, very smart, cheap Disadvantages: None (although some places might not stock them)
...to express the delights of Loveson Grosvenor joddie boots to all you equine lovers out there.
Firstly, these boots have seen me through thick and thin for many years. In fact I have only recently purchased a new pair. My last pair gave me over 10 years good service (and we're talking hard-graft here!) and are now in semi-retirement (i.e. only worn on nice days for the less arduous tasks of horse owning).
So here's the lowdown:
Loveson Grosvenor ... ...the market. In my opinion they are extremely comfortable, obviously hard-wearing(!) and look tremendously smart on those posher equine occasions. They are 'roomy' enough to allow extra socks on cold winter days too.
They are made from good quality english leather and come in a choice of black or brown. The elasticated sides are really stretchy ("As you would expect, being elastic an' all, " I hear you say!? Well, believe me, with some joddy boots ...

If looking for a pair of Jodhpur boots I can highly recommend Loveson's range. Unlike a lot of other brands they are squarer around the toes resulting in a very comfortable fit - plenty of room for toes which means they are comfortable from day one and need no "wearing in". They are easy to get on and off - other brands I have tried have needed much wriggling and squeezing to get on and off!
They are extremely comfortable, excellent value for money ...
