Being an avid horse owner and rider, I feel I must put pen to paper (no...finger to keypad) to express the delights of Loveson Grosvenor joddie boots to all you equine lovers out there.
Firstly, these boots have seen me through thick and thin for many years. In fact I have only recently purchased a new pair. My last pair gave me over 10 years good service (and we're talking hard-graft here!) and are now in semi-retirement (i.e. only worn on nice days for the less arduous tasks of horse owning).
So here's the lowdown:
Loveson Grosvenor boots are one of the few squared-toed joddy boot on the market. In my opinion they are extremely comfortable, obviously hard-wearing(!) and look tremendously smart on those posher equine occasions. They are 'roomy' enough to allow extra socks on cold winter days too.
They are made from good quality english leather and come in a choice of black or brown. The elasticated sides are really stretchy ("As you would expect, being elastic an' all, " I hear you say!? Well, believe me, with some joddy boots you need to enlist the help of the local tug 'o war team to get them off!!!). The sole is reasonably smooth which I believe is reckoned to be safer for riding than some of one's with deeper tread. They are relatively easy to keep in good condition. I occasionally polish mine (more for special occasions) and sometimes give them a wipe down with some Neatsfoot oil when I'm cleaning my tack.
Being a short boot, they are perhaps not up to the task of trudging through a heavily bogged field, but they cope remarkably well in most conditions you might find yourself in. They are even comfortable when walking for miles, as I often pull mine on for 5 mile hikes with the dogs.
They come into their own when used for riding as the smooth-but-grippy sole helps your feet stay put in the stirrups. When worn with a smart pair of half-chaps or gaiters they can be used for those occasions where long boots are usually worn (e.g. show jumping, showing etc). In fact, I find this half-chap/joddy boot combo a lot less clumpy than my long leather boots - making me feel altogether more elegant in the saddle...(!)
I purchased my recent pair in the summer of this year, and I am sure they cost around £35 from my local saddlery shop. There are some better bargains to be found on some equine internet shops however.
In a nutshell, if you are going to buy joddy boots get yourself a pair of these. They are a quality item at a very reasonable price, and they beat most of the higher priced brands hands-down.
(...and they do children's sizes too!)
