...Sleeping on the ground is never going to be quite the same as a comfy bed but as a frequent camper and trekker the Therm-a-Rest Ultralite is the only choice for me. I have spent nights on cheap foam roll mats but if you are spending anything more than a few days on the ground, you'll find foam mats become as thin as paper in no time. The great thing about the Ultralite is that it is exactly what it says it is - light - and also takes up surprisingly little space. A good night's rest means a lot to me when I'm walking all day long and if you are about to go travelling or just off for a week's relaxation, then this really is worth it. It's not that cheap, when you compare it to a basic mat that you can pick up for about £7, but the Thermarest will last you for years if you look after it. Advantages: Light, Strong , reliable, well designed, anti shock

It extends in two places so is long enough for any task unlike some cheaper poles Light wieght; each pole wieghts about 330g approx cheaper poles can be much heavier anti shock system; a walkign pole can take about 20% of the load off your knees this system adds a springing shock absorbtion system that is great as it prevent jarring to wrist on rocky descents, traveling on hard ground and when using the poles like I do when comming down off a style with a pack on Titanium tip; These hardly wear after 10 years of using my old pole including road walks etc the tip is not worn at all! Also on leki poles the very bottom is flexibale and after thinking I have destroyed my pole after getting it trapped in a rock the very tip slowly reforms back straight! My partner who is taller than me has the long version which is 20" wide x 78" long x 2.5" deep. Big Agnes also makes a ¾ length pad which is useful for ultra light trekkers. My pad weighs 22 oz (624 g) and my partners pad weighs 25 oz (709g) so as you can see the weight is pretty decent. The upgrade kit does increase this by 10 ounces but the upgrade isn’t always necessary.
