Football kits are something every fan wants but not all fans can afford. At the moment the new home and away kits for most premiership clubs are going to set you back near to £40! This is an insane amount as we all know. However year after year we continue to pay it!
WHY
Im not sure why we feel the need to have the "New" kit every season. Im not sure why clubs insist on updating their kits most season. The differences are often minimal! I guess its just a way of supporting your kit. Wearing a new kit says to others "Yeah! I love City!". I suppose this is a case of each to their own. I however never buy the new kit. At the start of each season I get myself on Ebay and buy the kit from last year. I have recently bought Manchester City's away kit. I did the same thing with the away kit from the season before which just happens to be the Reebok kit featured in this reviw. Whilst I will review that specific kit I feel it is needed to review football kits in general also!
The Kit
This kit is very nice. If you have seen the latest away shirt you will know it is completely different and no longer made by Reebok. This kit has a very simple colour scheme that I love. It has a charcoal mesh like material as the main colour. The underarms are white and there is a traditional sky blue trim. The collar is also white. The quality of the material is very good. As of yet I have no pulls or tears in it and I have been active in it for over a year! The mesh has a very subtle pattern in it that makes it very original. I like how its no the most obvious thing in the world but still gives it a superior look compared to a shirt without the effect. It is a very lightweight shirt becauseof the material. This means its good for hot weather ( non existant in England I know!). The home kit from this season is also very nice and similar to this kit. I much prefer this kit to the following two away kits. Last years was purple and white. This years is a marroon and black. Whilst older city fans may prefer the more traditional approach this season I still prefer this kit from two seasons ago for its more modern look.
The price
Well when this kit came out it would have cost you £35 at a minimum. The home kit still would have been £40. With football kits the best thing to do is find out your size then buy it off Ebay. There you may get it slightly cheapers. With last seasons kits however the prices plummet, much like last seasons fashion! I recently bought last seasons away kit (the purple one ) for £10. I thought this was a bargain. I have just looked online for this kit from two seasons ago. It is around £5 to £10 also. Due to this being an old kit there are going to be less of them. Also there will be less of certain sizes, probably medium and large. The thing is on Ebay you must look for the word "OFFICIAL". There will no doubt be plenty of replica kits on there. This doesnt't just apply to City shirts either. You will probably find there are more available from clubs like united and chelsea. Everyone knows how much football clubs mark up the prices for retail but buying the shirt for £10 is a fairier representaion of how much this kit cost to make and the person you buy it off may still make some profit on the shirt at this price.
Printing
Don't be tempted once you have bought a shirt to take it to "The city shop" or something similar. Whilst they sometimes give you free printing if you buy from them anything you bring in will cost a fortune to print. The best thing to do is take it to a small local buisiness that does T-shirt printing. There it will cost around £5 for a name and number on the back. Plus you can have your choice of font and colour! I know that for a fact by the way as I work for a T-shirt printing company! The quality from a local buisiness will also be better. I have found that the vinyl used is of lower quality from the official shops, and they will charge you a tenner!!
Final thoughts
Shirts are always going to cost you loads if you buy the "new" kit. Thats jus tthe way football works at the minute. I however don't see the problem in buying last seasons kit. They were only playing in it in April! I have done it this way for a good few seasons now. Its not like you are going to look out of place either. There are plenty of fans who wear shirts from the 90's! I have even seen kits from the 80's in Burtons going for £30! I guess retro is cool!
