The steerer tube is made from reinforced steel so there are no worries about cracking as on some of the older models of this fork. The stanchions are 32mm diammeter steel ensuring that they can withstand the constand abuse of dirt and street riding. All this steel does come at a price though, and that is the weight ... ...with aluminium steerer and stanchions (although I own both of these versions of the fork, and when in use the extra weight only seems to make a difference on long climbs, not the forks intended use, and therefore the weight is not a problem as far as I am concerned). This fork is aimed purely at the dirt jump and street market. For this reason they have been constructed primarily with strength in mind. The steerer tube is made from reinforced steel so there are no worries about cracking as on some of the older models of this fork. The stanchions are 32mm diammeter steel ensuring that they can withstand the constand abuse of dirt and street riding. All this steel does come at a price though, and that is the weight of around 7lb, about 2lb heavier than the 2003 version with aluminium steerer and stanchions (although I own both of these versions of the fork, and when in use the extra weight only seems to make a difference on long climbs, not the forks intended use, and therefore the weight is not a problem as far as I am concerned). The damping is Dual SSVF and has an external rebound adjuster, preload can be adjusted using an air pump which is not supplied with the fork. The lower legs of the fork are made from one piece magnesium and are disc specific, they accept a 20mm axle. Performance wise these forks do exactly what they were intended to do. They take single big hits in a reasuring and confidence inspiring manner, steering is as accurate as any other singlecrown fork on the market and they remain stiff under heavy breaking. Looks wise they are a dirt brown colour, which in my opinion is not as good looking as the old black version, although it doesn't look too bad on the bike. The fork also performs well on UK downhill courses due to its strength, the fork is also relatively smooth over fast smaller bumps, although the rebound damping could do with being a bit slower, even on the slowest setting. Overall a good reliable fork, and miles stronger than other singlecrown forks.
