Trev Tries Trek
Review of Trek 1.2 Double by
trevorbrock
Advantages: Good re-introduction to road bikes
Disadvantages: expense and pedals
...with narrowish tyres and straight handlebars or a drop handle bar proper road bike, with tyres so thin I could up up stuck in a drain grating.
The Trek 1.2 Double won the day after a very generous discount from the dealer.
The list price is £499 and I can't tell you publicly how good the reduction was! - but it was amazing - thanks Dave and Chris.
3 The Vital Details
If you look on the Trek site you will get the technical details of the bike among their glittering 2008 productions.
Some of the spec details would be meaningless to you - as some are still to me.
But the details that affected my choice and my experience include the following.
The Double is not a reference to the drink needed before venturing out on to the public highway, but to the double gear wheel on the front of the chainset, which results in doubling the back 8 gears...

Racing experiences of CX TT
Review of Vittoria CX TT Orange by
mapeimark
Advantages: Light, Fast rolling Tyre, bit pricey
Disadvantages: Not amazing in the wet
...of racing 10 mile time trials, so I wasn't exactly doing thousands of miles on them!
This problem I would say is consistent across Vittorias. I had a pair of older Open corsas, and they only lasted about six months - not long when I have more than one bike and only used them for road racing.
I now use Michelin tyres in summer which seem to have a far better wear rate & similar characteristics in terms of grip and rolling.
The grip in the wet is adequate, but not astonishing, I don't use them in winter any more - see my Conti GP4000 review for details.
In conclusion, if you have the money to spend, they are great tyres, for racing on, though they just aren't durable enough for "just riding around on" - or training.
But don't get me wrong, they are a good tyre - they are light weight and they do give the bike a good rolling sensation......
