You probably don't know what this product is just by the name, since these type of things don't get that much advertising. The MET Roadrunner II is a cycle helmet, a nice one.
I ride to and from college everyday, which is about 4 miles through the city of Cambridge. As some of you will know Cambridge is a cycling place, but I must say that some roads are very tight and there are a LOT of buses, lorries and cars during peak times. It was only last week when a OAP almost ran me over. I was passing a parked car, and the OAP turned in on me without indicating. Lucky I reacted in time to turn. Anyway, my previous helmet had taken some wear and tear, fortunately none from any accidents, just bumps and knocks here and there. So I finally decided to invest in a decent helmet.
I chose the MET Roadrunner II. It comes in 4 different colours: Black, Blue, Red and White. I got the black one, although the blue and red also look quite "flash". The aesthetics of this helmet are excellent, and great for the casual/almost frequent cyclist. It has a slightly pointed back, so to make it look better, and it boasts 16 holes, or air vents to be correct. What the salesman said was that, "The more holes the better, coz you don't get so hot." It didn't seem such professional advice, but I knew what he was trying to say, and I knew what I was looking for. This helmet did set me back £30 at Halfords though, but it is worth it.
What I liked about this helmet was the immediate feel of comfort, which was a great improvement to my old one. The was it was designed, and the added pads make it very comfortable to wear. Due to it's UNIFIT-3 system, it fits almost any adult head (54-61cm). The UNIFIT-3 system is a little strap at the back which you can adjust to wrap round the back of your head, so it fits nice a firmly. In the box came extra pads just incase you wanted to add more yourself, and some in different thicknesses for even more personalisation.
It also felt different and weighed at only 280g, so unlike my old one this is a helmet for the more serious rider. MET also boasts their IN-MOULDING-Technology. They have fused both the outer-shell and inner shell together to make it even stronger. Whether this is the case I don't know.
What could have been better is if it came with a Visor, to block out the sun...which really gets to me when I ride towards the sun. I think there is a visor with a higher model but also at a higher price.
Overall a very comfortable helmet. Compact and light, and I do recommend that cyclists do wear a safety helmet. You may be a competant rider, but does that driver know you're there?
